Good afternoon all.

I am in the process of moving house and am thinking what to do with my current B&O equipment, and what new equipment to buy.

I currently have a Beovision 8-40 and a pair of beolab 4000's which have served me very well for the last 4 years. I can't bring myself to get rid of them, so I will be moving them from my current living room, to the new master bedroom (the TV at least, I'm not sure what to do with the speakers).

For the new living room, I'm agonising over whether to buy the 11-46 or 11-55. I'll be sitting 10 feet away so I have a feeling the 46 will be adequate, and the 55 could be overpowering that close. Opinions welcome on that point. It's a beautiful TV and a nice step up from the 40 I think!

In terms of sound, I went in to hear the demo of the 14's at selfridges and was extremely impressed! I thought they would be along the lines of the 4's which I never really liked but they weren't at all. Extremely good value from a B&O perspective too.

My question here is whether to go for the 14's, or supplement my 4000's with a pair of beolab 3's and a subwooofer. I do love the look of the 14's hanging from the ceiling.

Any thoughts/experiences welcome!

P.S. I'm also going to be pairing this living room setup with Lutron Sivoia Wireless blinds and either rako/lutron lighting.

Thanks!

Hi,

Can't help much on the BL14 decision (still haven't seen / heard them) but re 55 vs 46 - both are beautiful but I went for the 55 with BL9's front and an old pair of 6000's at the back. Crucialto this discussion though i'm also 10 feet away from the screen.

The only caution with being close to big screen is mounting height becomes crucial - lower is better. Anything more than 0.5 meter from the bottom edge to the floor and you'll notice needing to tilt your head back when watching.

That said as long as right height, size is perfect. If you cannot mount low down (fireplace etc.) the size becomes an issue (but doubt whether going smaller will help much). If you go floor stand the n clearly the above is of no relevance.

Happy deciding!

I'm also about 10 feet away and the 46 inch is perfect. The dealer guided me rightly away from the 40, and although I love the 55 it was personally too big. You also should factor in that a good deal on a new 7-55 mk2, will start coming into the financial ball park of the 11-55!

The only down side bizarrely of the 14's is that they make such a good impression for such a small physical and financial outlay, that they put my Beolab 5/9 plans into question. I'm not comparing like for like, but bang for the buck they are hard to beat.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I would probably go for the 46 - but it really depends on the circumstances in the room.

And I would use the existing BL4000 as front with a BL14 as sub and 2 BL14 satelites as rear.

Just buy the new BL14 2.1 set and you are good to go.

Depending on the budget you might consider the OPPO 103 as Bluray/cd player - and of cource  an AppleTV/iPad (if you are in for the Apple thing).

Greetings Millemissen

There is a tv - and there is a BV

I didn't know that the 2.1 set was available. That's a good news for music listening and especially for meSmile

I think that for the short distance 46" is perfect. Above you will only notice the TV in the room; unless the TV corner will be used only for this purpose and not for socializing.

Thanks so much for these responses. I will probably go for the 46 now but still go for the normal beolab 14 setup.

I spoke to the dealer yesterday who said he could give me a poster to test the size on the wall which could be quite useful. Either way, very excited and will post some pics when I eventually get it installed!
