A friend of mine has given me his Beosound 8 as he hadnt used it for ages. Very nice you may think except that I got it out of its box, tried to use it and its totally dead. Nothing happens at all when you plug it in. I've never even played with one of these before so was wondering if there is some secret power button somewhere or if its broken. Ive been on to B&O and will be taking it in to be looked at but dont want to be laughed at when I get there.

I havent seen any posts with problems on these, are they known for failing.

I also did the phone camera trick on the remote and cant see anything flashing - should I be able to? I've put new batteries in the remote.

Hi Beaker

It sounds like it needs a new dock connector fitted. Take it to your nearest dealer for assistance.

Sorry, but I have to ask:

have you read the userguide?

if you have read the userguide and it still isn't working, no one will laugh at you if you need advice.

Tip: try to connect an external source via 'headphone out' to the 'aux in socket' - turn the volume up on the connected device!

N.B. you can not exchange the dock on a BS8.

Ive read the manual but thought I'd check. Hmm, seems like a repair bill is coming although it might still be under warranty....

After taking Millemissen's advise I plugged something into the back using RCA leads and it works perfectly but still is doesn't acknowledge my phone or another one. I'll just gave to see what they say at the service centre.

Have you tried the dock with different iDevices?

MM

OH, sorry - you already have!!

Must be a faulty dock then!

Ooops crossed postings!

It sounds odd that both the remote and BS8 are faulty.

With the remote, when you did the camera test were you looking at the correct place to see the IR flashing (sorry for asking if you did)

Also, it may help to know that when nothing is connected to the BS8 it seems completely dead, even when connected to power and the power is on at the wall. It only "comes to life" once something is connected and you press and hold down the centre "on" button for a fraction of a second.

It may help to know what hardware are you trying to play music with! Is it an iPhone/iPod on the dock or something connected to the AUX sockets via the headphone out socket?. It may be worth trying all possible connections to see which do/don't work.

Other than that, it may just be a "duffer" and that is why it wasn't being used, which will mean the cost of repairs if out of warranty :o(

Have you tried to operate the BS8 with a BEO4?

The remote works now. I didn't see anything on my phone camera but it operated the BS8 when it was working. Basically it only doesn't work when you use the dock. Everything else seems fine.

Then you will have to decide if you want to put money into the repair of the dock.

Do you need it - 30 pin is on its way out (and hard-connected iDevices evenso).

Since the BS8 has no support for AirPlay, you could invest the money in a PlayMaker, and connect it to the 'Aux Line in'.

This way you would have an up to date small music system.

They were released in late 2010 (November?).  3-year warranty = you're covered (unless it was abused).

Well I've dropped it off at B&O in Kingston so hopefully it will be fixed. It's still under warranty so it should be ok. Also had my first look at the beolab 14's. Sorry to say I didn't like them!

Two days after dropping it off at B&O in Kingston I got a call to say it was back and working. Fixed under warranty.

Excellent service from the chaps there. I will definitely visit them again if I'm going to actually spend some money!
