I bought some red-black 0.75 mm speakercable at the local DIY-shop (karwei) and some wooden sticks, and started winding. Kept it like this for a week or something and voilá.
Very nice result and definitely something that a lot of people are looking for but I doubt they will stay like this.They will most likely unwind again over time, I'm afraid.The original cables are pretensioned when wound from factory (wound hard one way and rotated the other way at the sametime, then reversed to lock into itself) and, just like yours, given time they will fall back to their original spiral state if stretched and released.
Try pulling and stretching them a bit and then release. See if they pull together and fall back to a perfect spiral.
However, with access to both the correct type/color cable (yours look fairly close to original) and agood winding machine capable or doing spirals, it should be possible to reproduce them the right way.

When I stretch them a little they pull back, almost like a spring. Overall it seems they hold pretty good. It is the first pair I made. The ones still in manufacturing are 2.0 and are wound tight around the wooden sticks for almost two months now. Since the 1.0 version hold pretty well, I think the 2.0 version will be close to perfect :-) I'll keep you updated!

If you have access to a heat gun, run that along the cable when it is wound around the rod. That should help it retain its shape.

Had the same idea, But it all depends on the plastic used, the copper strands will at first, go back to the shape it had winded up, but if stretched and left in that position it will get harder and keep the position, But yes, heating the plastic may help. I think B&O had a spring steel wire wound into the cable.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
So far I haven't found any good red/black wire here in the US that doesn't have lettering all along the jacket.
As promised: the 2.0 version of my home made spiral cables. They seem to hold even better.
Fantastic Wouter, great result! I would like to have a pair for my RL60.2 which I just bought for a few pennies. But first I need to restore them, new cloths etc..
