I found a Beo4 remote in my closet and I believe it was there since 2000 or earlier. I put new batteries in it and the screen shows 'TV' , but nothing else and all bottons don't work at all. I tried to open the case and clean the PCB but nothing works. Anyone has the same problem like this?

Beocom 6000, Beocom 1, Beocom 5, Beolab 4000, Beocenter 2300, Beo4, Earset 2, Earset 3i

Have tried the obvious; new batteries and checked the contacts insode the battery compartment for battery leakage? There is one more test you can try. Look at the ir transmitter of the Beo4 through a digital camera or camera phone whilst pressing a button on the Beo4. This will show if the ir is working. If it isn't the likely repair will involve replacing the PCB.

If the ir is sending oout a signal it may be an option programme issue with the products you are trying to operate.

Could also be a permanent "pressed" key.

Try opman's trick with the camera - if it blinks steadily it could be a "hanging" key.

As it shows "TV" is isn't completely dead. Possibly a key matrix issue.

There are different key contacts depending on the version of Beo4.

Good luck,

I have a similar issue with my Beo4 remote.

Last year I had to replace my batteries that I had had since I first got the remote in 2005, an over the last week the remote has frozen after I turn the tv on and then try to turn the sound up (it simply has DTV on the display, as I have a BV3 32" and I use a Humax HDR FOX-T2 as my receiver, I simply watch it through my B&O tv, so I usually switch the tv on, set the sound using the Beo4 remote and then use the Humax remote, so it doesn't get a lot 8f use hence why the original batteries lasted so long!)

To get it to work again I have to remove the cover and turn the batteries this works for a few days, then I have to repeat the process.

I have no leakage from the batteries, I have tried new batteries but the same thing happens.

Is it cheaper to buy a new one and is this common for the remote to fail after nearly 9 years service?

Sounds like the PCB is done. If it sticks on TV, that usually means that it needs to go into repair or you should purchase a new one.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Or upgrade with the newest PCB....

Nice way to get a 'new' Beo4 w. navi-button at half the price.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

resurrecting this old thread, I'm seeing this now on two remotes I have - although on one, the LIST button and TEXT buttons work occasionally. The switch membrane seems to be a complete unit - and a replacement would probably fix the issue - just not sure that the part is available - and how easy it is to replace

From memory there is a little sprung clamp that clips the keyboard contact foil to the main PCB.  Sometimes this can become dislodged and cause problems with some buttons.  The Beo4 is relatively simple to take apart so if you are handy with a screwdriver then it is worth giving it a try.

The best place to source new internal parts (if needed) is probably to buy a cheap Beo4 with a broken screen and swap over the internals.  I have fixed several this way.

(EDIT: And it's worth looking at the Beo4 service guide on site, if you haven't already)
