My first post here so hello all. I could do with some advice - I've been repairing vintage synthesizers/guitar pedals & a few other bits (as a hobby) for about a year learning as i go with lots of reading & trial & error & I absolutely love it. I'd like to broaden things a bit & have started studying amp design a bit more. I am very ameture but do know a lot of the basics to get me through.

A guy I know has a Beomaster 3000 & would like it fixed & he says the the output fuses keep blowing, i don't have much more info than that really. I assume (as he is a hi-fi collector/enthusiast) that the speakers he is using are fine & nothing else obvious is the cause. I have the service manual/schematics & have read about the 'electronic fuses' which protect the output transistors < I am not sure how this part works?

Any ideas of where to start & what to look for in this amp regarding this problem - shorted output transistors... power supply shorts.. etc?

Or, perhaps, I should leave well alone altogether (as I am not that familiar with power amp stages) !?

Thanks in advance for any input anyone can give me.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I don't know as i haven't actually seen it - he just says it's the 3000 so ill have to find out which version Is. How do the two amp circuits compare, many differences/complexities? & how does availability of replacement parts compare with the two?

I've read B&O stuff sometimes needs a bit of a different approach when servicing compared to a lot of other gear, not sure your thoughts on that?

Thanks kindly!

They are two completely different receivers.
See here:
http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=336
http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=339

One has a discretely built amplifier, the other has a hybrid chip.
Most parts are commonly available for both.
It's true that servicing B&O in general is not like any other stereo but thte Beomaster 3000 (either version)
is not the "worst" in this regard.
