Hi, new to the forum and new rx2 owner.  Everything looks good but.....when the tone arm drops it stays outside the first groove of the record and just sits out there.

MMC 5

Balanced, etc. I think.  Set it at 1.5gm

What to do next?

thanks

Wendell

Welcome to Beoworld.

Set the RX2 at the edge of a table so the front of the RX2 overhangs about 3 inches or so.  Don't worry if this takes the bottom pads off the table.

Underneath the RX2 there will be a screw on either side.  Get on the floor and look up at the bottom of the RX2 to see the screws.  Remove them.

Put the RX2 fully on the table now, and slide it left so you have 18" of work space to the right of the RX2.

Lift the dust cover and put it up all the way.  Remove the platter.  If you haven't done so already, loosen the transport locking screws and mechanism.  Now pull up and out (toward you) on the top of the RX2 (that is, the big metal square that has a 12" hole in it).  You need to pull up just enough to get the switching PCB out.  And you need to pull toward you just until the U cut out in the back for the tonearm base clears the tonearm base.

The start button contact switch needs to come out of its slot.  Once that is pulled out, rotate the top of the RX2 toward the work space you created to the right.  Set the top aside, being careful because wires are attached!  You will need access to the start button contact switch, so make sure that's available.

Now, look at the base of the tonearm.  To the left and a little in front is a white plastic cylinder about an inch tall and an eighth inch in diameter.  Use a stubby standard head screw driver to turn this cylinder.  This will adjust where the stylus sets down on the record.  You can put the platter back on at this stage for testing.

You can still start the RX2 while it's disassembled.  Just short the contacts of the start switch with a screw driver.

Good luck with the adjustment.  Once you know what you're doing, this procedure should only take you about fifteen minutes.  It may sound daunting, but it's not too bad.  I just adjusted 2 of my own RX2s in the past month (I own 3).  Sadly, I did not take any photos, nor did I post the procedure here.

This is all covered in the service manual (available to silver and gold members) on the main site.

If you decide you're not up to it, you can live with a work around.  Put a record on the platter, and press the cue button.  This should start the RX2 spinning and the tonearm should move close to position.  Using a finger, nudge the cartridge/tonearm over so the stylus is over the lead-in groove.  Then press cue again.  I did this for YEARS with one of my RX2s, a turntable I owned since new from about 1990.

Thanks Rich,

I think I can handle this, will make a run at it tomorrow.  One of the weird things is when the tone arm sets down on the record......I hit the cue button and it comes up of course and I moved it over a bit and then hit the cue button again.  For some reason it won't stay there, it reverts to the edge of the record.

I am not sure the work around will work.....seems the tone arm has 2 places in mind, the cradle or the very edge of the record.

Will let you know what happens manana.
