Hi

I've been using these screw -in DIN plugs for some speakers but I've never been totally happy with them. They're always a little loose.

Does anyone know of anything similar but higher quality?

Thanks.

I quite like them!

When you say loose do you mean that the 2 pins are loose in the socket, or the body of the plug is loose in it's casing? If it's the former I gently prize apart the 2 pins away from each other by a couple of mm and this makes it much more snug and firm in the socket.

Cheers

Srew-in plugs will work perfectly, but I always prefer soldered plugs for a better contact with the cables. It's more reliable.

A pity, we can't see the inside of the plugs on the picture.

Some of those DIN plugs are just cr.p - I once bought some with really bad screw-terminals that couldn't hold the cables properly.
Then I found some really good ones at a local shop (I live in Denmark).

Here's a Picture of the inside:

These are really good -with enough space for some proper cables.

If I were you, I'd find a shop where you can actually see how they are.
I wouldn't dare to buy those plugs on the internet  (unless they show pictures of the inside (which they usually don't do) Erm..

Thanks for your replies. There's no choice here in Dublin. Only Maplins really. Any good ones online?

Nigel- Actually yes, it's the former. So I'll give that a try. Thanks for the tip.

I've learned to solder the ends of my speaker cables to create a solid single conductor - the screw is able to clamp down on the wire quite well after this treatment.

Yes. That definitely helps.

I never use the screw mount type.
I understand the need for people who cannot solder but I've seen too many blown amplifiers
caused by stray speaker wire strands in speaker plugs.
I can recommend the metal housed Delron type found on Ebay. Solder type but very good value for money.

I just bought some of those on EBay UK. Thanks for the tip.
