I have been comparing the 5500 with my Philips CD751 and CD753 in the last few months, I have all three in different bedrooms and have been swapping them around and comparing side by side

Lucas likes the 5500 a lot, it seems he does not know about the Beolink 1000 remote :-(

http://lampizator.eu/lampizator/references/Bangandolufsen/Bang%20&%20Olufsen%20CD5500%20CD%20player.html

all three are fine CDP's, but the CD753 is the most beautiful sounding CDP in my house, it just edges out the CD751 and sounds a bit more refined and luxuriant than the 5500

all three are fabulous though - and worth hearing

nb i used to have CD 50 ( still like the way the cd has to go upside down because Aiwa were worried about legal issues in America in the early eighties) , good cdp but not good enough for me !

The problem is that you need a Beomaster as the remote works on that and not the Beogram. I must dig out my 5500 again - you have all aroused my interest! I'll do a side by side comparison with the CDX again!

Shame you couldn't do the CD50 at the same time, that would pretty much span most of the range!

Ban boring signatures!

Funny that. I really enjoy my CD50. I too have the complete Beogram CD series. Hmm...

Orava - you and I both agree, the CD 50 has a somewhat fuzzy, laid back sound, probably because it was all so new at the time and they were not that bothered with good honest playback that I expect from a CDP

Actually I do have the CD50, though whether it is in a good mood and working at the minute is less sure!!

I just setup my CDX through my BM6000 ('80s) TP2 and Beovox M150.

Compared to my CD6500 with the BM6500 and Beovox S120 there is more highend on the CD6500 and the sound in general a little more clear overall.

That is with only loudness and bass/treble at zero on both Beomasters.

The CDX does sound very pleasing though but I do prefer to put the bass on 1-2 to ad some sort of balance between the bottom and highend which works fine on the BM6500.

I do work on the tone controls more as I do find that maybe there is a sort of sweat spot with some Beomasters.

I have all three the CDX CD50 and CD5500 and like them all equally. The other one I like is this little runt. Soundwise it can trade blows with the Beos. i dont say this to slight the Beogram CD players or B&O but rather to praise Toshiba, Wonderful little CD player from the mid 80's.
