Forget the old thread.

Imagine you are the person that Tue Mantoni has asked for a list of older products to be eliminated to simplify the product range.

What you do suggest?

This is just a game of speculation which is what this forum does all the time.

Make your list and include your reasons.

Of douse if we all had access to the actual product sales numbers this would be easy.Smile

I don't really wish to focus on the products to eliminate, rather the older ones that should remain or be upgraded...

Iconic products:

BeoLab 8002

BeoLab 6002

BeoLab 5

BeoLab 3

BeoVision 11

Products to be upgraded:

BeoSound 5 & Encore (Better expandability, airplay and no external black box)

BeoVision 7 (Thinner profile to match that of BeoVision 10 & 11)

BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.

They should bring back the iconic Jacob Jensen Beomasters, like the BM1200. This time around with Dab and N Radio, and either internal ICEpower amps for Beovox, or outputs for Beolabs.

Not on the 7-40. It shares the same backlighting platform as BV 10 and 11.

BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.

It has already been posted by Roger that a new TV to replace the BV7 should come next year.  However the sizes indicated seem to point to more of a replacement for the BV4 85 / 103 than the current 7 sizes?

B&O from the published reports is continues to bleed red ink.   The dealers in Europe are suffering large turnover declines from news reports.  Products must be eliminated to free up cash flow for all to survive.  There are many on this form who think they could run B&O better the the current team.  So how would you do it?

If anything needs to go, it should be the BeoSound 4. It was never the icon like BS-9000 or the BS-2500 range. Since audio and video has merged with the personal computer, the focus of B&O should shift away from audio and video players to audio speakers and large screen video monitors (i.e. smart TV). I think that's the route Tue has already chosen to go.

BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.

BeoSound 4 was officially terminated earlier this year :)

Audio and video is integrating with the Net and mobile devices. While there is not a good system for high quality easy integrating listening and viewing this content. So interact Besound5 with apps for playing content. Optical and harddrives drives are obsolete. Landlines as wel. And within the B&O range define a low, mid and high range devices.

People keep saying in various threads tha B&O should retain the "iconic" products, beolab 8000/8002 etc.

this is a forum full of enthusiasts who like the older products and in reality bear no relation to the actual customer base.  The Bl800 design is old and not in anyway attractive to most customers in 2013, even on the wall brackets.

if they were still selling, they would still be making them.

Beoworld is in danger of becoming a Porsche 911 forum where a small number of people who are passionate about the history can't u dear stand why the company evolve the product range beyond something the minority of enthusiasts love, but which is not saleable in the modern world

But take a look at the financial reports of Porsche and B&O! Not a bad decision to produce still the 911, isn't it? I would like to see the same with 8000/8002 etc.!

A lot of people still have to live with low bandwith...Angry

Sadly, not everybody yet has access to high speed internet connections...I can tell you that in Denmark (as in a lot of other countries) there are still a lot of 'dark spots' when it comes to cell phone coverage. Many can not even get optical cabled broadband -but have to live with ADSL connections...

Those damned cell phone companies are now bragging about their 4G -while they can not even offer a decent 3G coverage for all customers...Super Angry

B&O has big challenges, and please name me an A/V company that doesn't..  Loewe has a crisis, and I think their dance with the devil will be (sadly) a short one.

For Me ! Bang & Olufsen should concentrate his energy to produce only innovative and quality speakers for Home and Cars ! Beo should stop with TVs, old Phones and BeoPlay's toys !

Allthough I'm a vivid lover of the BL8000 design.. maybe it's time to let it go... It's been here since the early '90's.

Also to be adapted/upgraded : BV7.. It was a sculpture when it was released.. but now it's "fat" when you look at these rasor thin TV's from Samsung...

The BV4 85 and 103 were more of a statement; but utterly out of touch with regard to the current economic crisis... Maybe they can still be produced in a build to order scenario...

BL 2, 3, 5, 9, 11 need to stay :-)

Anyway... Tue might be on the right track in regard to cleaning up the current product range... let's see what Struer has up its sleeves...

B&O got out of the phone business. Their mobile phones had been quirky but expensive, and certainly were not smart phones.

Now, looking at how the mobile phone market is moving on to higher quality capabilities, 13mp+ cameras etc maybe B&O should buy in some technologies or partner again with Samsung to produce a very high quality phone/ streaming device to which all of their Beolabs can connect. OK, it can be argued that they've already gone partly down this route with various docking devices for the iPad/ iPhone etc. Or maybe just a universal docking station that can accommodate any phone/ any connector.

.......... as I ponder this further it dawns on me that they just need to focus on the speakers........... with a universal dock...... Which would be a mini headphone jack..........

........ I already do something like this with my 40 year old Beomaster.......... Oh well.

What about a neat B&O module for DAB radio / N Radio that can input into all the earlier beomasters?

No, no, no...

You can't watch tv/videocontent on a Playmaker - can you?

Don't overreact!

I was just questioning the use of a BV-MediaPlayer in full screen mode for audiocontent.

Of cource we need the Mediabrowser (and the BV-screen) for our videocontent.

It is a nice mediabrowser imo. But I would prefer to chooce my music on a handheld device and just have to turn on the loudspeakers of the BV.

Maybe some day the MediaPlayer of the new BV's can act as a 'mediarenderer' - then there would be no need for the 'extra' Playmaker.

Shouldn't be a big problem for the guys in Struer - many mediaplayers (DMP's) can act as renderers (DMR's) nowadays.

With the BeoRemote (acting as a 'Digital Media Control Point') supporting searching  on the DLNA server we would have a complete B&O solution.

(Will that come?)

Then again - that does not solve the problem mentioned.

Of cource B&O should support ALAC as well, but that is more a question of DLNA standards.

There are some servers that are able to transcode ALAC to AIFF before sending the content to the MediaPlayer.

Otherweise - a conversion from ALAC to FLAC is relativ simple, and could be a temporary solution.

This has almost become 'offtopic' - sorry for that. I had no intention to hijack the thread Embarrassed

Greetings Millemissen

Don't over-react to my over-react!

Currently using an iPad which will not let me use appropriate smilies!

Maybe the majority of B&O owners are not here on Beoworld and have little interest in upgrading current or old ranges, but I often think that ICEpower amplifier modules would be a nice product for converting any passive speaker to active use.
