Hi,

I just talked to my local dealer who offered me a sneak preview of the new software update.

I didn't get much information, but apparently the main change has to do with Spotify premium users. It is now possible to start the music from your iPhone/iPad and then let the A9 take over the music feed. This means that the A9 gets the music directly from Spotify instead of going through the iPhone/iPad (This should ensure a better quality). The A9 will continue playing the selected playlist, and when done start a Radio based on the last played number. My guess is that the battery life will increase too.

I have no idea now this is suppose to work. Apparently B&O needed my Spotify email account to active the function. This should only be the case if you wanted to join the action before the update goes official. How it will work after that, I have no idea.

"B&O PLAY introduces Spotify Connect for an even simpler and seamless playback experience Today a press release has been published telling about a new collaboration with Spotify to include their brand new Spotify

Connect feature in BeoPlay A9.

The software upgrading the BeoPlay A9 will be available later this year, and all customers can benefit from this upgrade by simply updating the software in the products already sold.

With Spotify’s software built into BeoPlay A9 you will benefit on several fronts: You will be playing directly from the cloud – and you won’t have to rely on unstable connections to stream music between your devices. Incoming phone calls won’t stop the music from playing any longer, nor will watching a video clip or playing a game on the device you used to stream from result insilence on your speaker.

Now your device can “concentrate” on being the remote control and this will ensure that your battery life will not suffer as much as in the past when it was strained by the task of streaming. And, if your phone gets out of range from the speaker, the music will keep on playing on BeoPlay A9 – so if you’re running down for groceries the party will keep on rocking’ while you’re away.

“We’re dedicated to enable people to enjoy quality music – and at the same give them magical experiences in terms of design and craftsmanship – but also in the user experience,” says Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, Corporate VP of B&O PLAY, and continues:

“Spotify Connect simplifies the user experience – and we’ve worked closely together with the Spotify engineering team to be among the first to bring this exciting technology to our users.”

More information to follow about exact launch of this new software in BeoPlay A9, but is it important to stress that all products sold are easily upgradable using the BeoSetup App for download of new software."

Funny : "incoming phone calls won't stop the music from playing any longer" said by the brand that invented the phone that can control audio/video to mute when receiving a call ;-)

Probably B&O should develop such software update for Beovisions (BV11, BV12 and Beosystem 4). So a new audio system would be obsolete.

If they introduce this kind of technology, and a good interface for music listening (2-ways+ easy browsing) to their TVs, and MOTS as a bonus, yes, audio systems will be obsolete.

Nowadays, a music player is only a bit of software. So if B&O TVs become good music player (which they aren't currently, only for the interface, not for their DAC which is excellent), maybe with a good iPad 2-way control, a dedicated music player will become a thing of the past. With a hidden playmaker, Airport express or Sonos Connect, we are almost there.

Nothing as easy ad that!

Just implement the DMR function in the MediaPlayer - means make it possible to send music TO the player. (DigitalMediaRenderer).

And incorporate the search on a mediaserver function in the BeoRemote.

Next comes Spotify Connect IN the BeoRemote app.

I don't know why they hesitate?

Hi MM,

that's the way to go, for sure.

Probably they hesitate because nobody would go for a Beosound 5 with the spotify update, although BS 5 is obsolete right now (some customers don't recognize this fact).

Here some more infos about Spotify Connect:

http://news.spotify.com/us/connect/

B&O is also mentioned to support this feature. A9 seems to be the first device.

This also explains why my dealer needed the email for my Spotify account. I guess they can push features to specific accounts.

Furthermore I should receive an update-file from B&O, as I don't expect B&O to release beta software through the Beo-setup App.

You mean a new Playmaker, in the line of the Olive One, with the B&O features?

That would be a nice concept.

Even a small new remote, the Beo7 as I will name it, which offers these features, would also be very nice.

No, not in the 'line of Olive One' - in the line of Bang & Olufsen Smile

'small new remote'. As far as I am concerned the BeoRemote on the iPad Mini and a Beo4 is enough!

I was agreeing with you. Don't be defensive and let your stature as "the voice of B&O on BeoWorld" go to your head any more than it has.

Sorry symmes,

you don't seem to know me!

I just tend to being positive with B&O, because there is too much 'picking on' the company and what Tue does in many of the forum-posts.
