Hi all

I have a very strange problem with the IR sensor on my BS5. Sometimes it works as it should but sometimes it does not work at all and sometimes it works for a short while and stops in the middle of me raising the volume (example). It is the same when I try to turn the BS5 on and/or change source. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I have tried in the middle of the day (lot of sunlight) and in the evening - same problem. I have cut the power and rebooted the BM5 - same problem. I have taken out all the cables from the BM5 and put them back again - same problem.

I do not know if there is something I haven´t tried - can anyone help out?

Just a simple question: "Did you check the batteries of your remote?"

Is the remote faulty? Did you tried it with another remote? Does the remote work correct with other equipment?

Just a few tips.

Dear Erik,

I have exactly the problem!

It  only started recently and have tried re-booting several times over the past couple of weeks, trying several remotes all with new batteries but sometimes it just doesn't work, then later in the day its fine.

I was going to take the unit back to my dealer this week, but I am now thinking as I am not alone, that it could be the result of a recent software update.

I am going to call my dealer tomorrow and see what he has to say.

Best

Hi

Yes, I tried with my Beo 6 & My Beo 4. Same problem. When I operate the BS5 through one of my link eyes - NO problem!

I also think it started after the recent software update.

Same here,  Masterlink  rooms are fine.

I also checked the option setting just to make sure that it hadn't gone into option 0 by mistake, but it was still in option 1.

More fustrating is that all the latsest update  information screen gives about the most recent update is to contact your dealer or visit the Bang & Olufsen web site.....very informative!

Hopefully my dealer can shed some light on the situation.

Hi

Yes, please speak to your dealer. I have spoken to my dealer and he is now in contact with the B&O support. They are trying to come up with a solution.

If B&O gets reports from more than me the priority of this problem is likely to get higher. Smile

Hi again

I am still suffering from this problem but I have now identified the problem. In my case I have 9 meter cables between BS5 and the BM5 unit. This has been working fine for several years but suddenly it seems that the powercable is "broken". I actually thought it was the USB cable with the repeater that was broken since this cable carries the IR signal (have I been told). Since a new shorter USB cable did not solve the problem I tried with a new powercable (4,5 m) together with my old USB and DVI cables. Success! The problem was gone! :-)

The thing I am wondering now is if B&O has changed something in the last update making the BS5 require more power that my long 9 m cable now is unable to deliver or if the cable somehow is broken?

My dealer is talking to B&O now to see what they have to say.

Do you also have long cables?

Best regards,

Erik

Hi Erik,

I have spoken to my dealer but as yet he hasn't  come back to me.

I also have 9 metre cables, and thought at first that the USB cable was faulty, but I didn't think that it could be the power cable or power supply,

Recently mine has been behaving itself, and responding to IR, however at the weekend the masterlink completely froze and the system wouldn't switch to standby!

I have also noticed that sometimes it is very slow to start up from standby and the red led used to 'flash' whilst it was warming up now it just blinks once.

I am going to see my dealer at the weekend to collect some power link cables so will see if he has any answers to the problems we seem to be having.

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul

I just wanted to confirm that the change of my 9 m powercable did the trick. The BS5 now supports IR signals like it is supposed to.

Still I have no answer to how this happend. I have not touched the cable in almost 4 years and it just suddenly"breaks"??

Hi Erik,

You seem to have found the solution, I have ordered a new power cable.

I had also thought that the ir was carried on the USB, but my dealer has confirmed that it is carried on pin 4 of the power cable!

Best,

paul

Hi!

Just want to tell you that this also solved MY problem with a non-functioning remote.

For a long time I thougt it was some kind of software error, but surely one still shouldn't forget all about hardware too.

Thanks once again,
