Hello,

After several years with an almost broken plastic cd clamp in one of my Beocenter 9000 I finally found a working alternative that I like to share with whom it may concern:

The NAIM CD Clamp 5 works! OK it is not perfect, but it a lot better than not being able to play CD on this beautiful unit - And it costs less than 7 GBP.

Just wanted to share this as I have spent almost three years finding an original clamp that is not broken. I know how frustrating this is!

Thanks for sharing! How does it work? Just remove the plastic + spring part and put this on the cd magnetically? Or does it need more work on the Beocenter?

How is your further experience? Working fine?

Hi

Sorry I know this is an old post but just found it after my Beocenter 9000 developed a crack on the CD holder and began to skip tracks. I bought the Naim clamp online for 6.95 GBP and it works brilliantly. Although the clamp has to be manually removed and replaced on the disc each time, the magnet holds firm and it works brilliantly every time. It's an almost perfect solution allowing me to enjoy my CD's again.

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing this tip and I'm happy to share pictures if it would be useful to anyone.

Regards

David

I'm reanimating this ancient thread, as it was discussed today in a FB group.

I have similar symptoms to the O.P., though my unit is a Beocenter 9500, not BC9000.

The CD drive works intermittently.  It always tries to spin up the disk, so the motor's ok.  Sometimes it will read the disk index and play the disk.  Sometimes it won't read the index, then spins down and opens the drive door.  Sometimes it start to spins up the disk with a terrifying scraping noise as though the disk is being spun off-axis and the drive is about to eat the disk...then spins down and opens the drive door.

I think that the last condition, at least is mechanical, and I'm certainly willing to purchase a $10 cd clamp to see if it will work.  Does anyone know if the Naim CD Clamp 5 (recommended above for the BC9000) will work in a Beocenter 9500?  Or will I cause damage by experimenting?

Beocenter 9500 has its own clamp.
It swings in and clamps down, when the CD door is closed.
There wouldn't be any room for an extra clamp.

The Beocenter 9000 is different. It has a spring-supported "snap-on" type of hub.

I'm just wondering about your answer Martin :  we have 3 Beocenter 9500 and 1 Beocenter 9000.

Not yet opened, so I did not see in details the mecanism.
But I see a huge difference between both models when inserting a CD : the centering of the CD is just smooth on the beocenter 9500 (and so probably a clamp comming on the top to avoid spinning and block the CD on the axis)

But on beocenter 9000, the centering looks fluted, and this avoid spinning of the CD.

So i'm asking myself why need of a CD holder (like the Naim part) ?

Thank you, Martin.  Based on your post, I've looked closely at/under the CD door and can now see the clamp.

If I open up the unit, are there any adjustments that I can/should make to the clamp?

Because yours is still intact, that's why you don't see the need!  When the hub cracks and rolls off inside the case, and the spring flies off to wherever, *then* you might decide to purchase a CD-clamp.  (BTW, color me surprised that Naim sells anything for ten bucks...)

Hi,

I had the same symptoms on a beocenter 9500 I repaired.

I had to replace the capacitors on the PCB of the CD drive!
You can get the exact right caps from Martin (Dillen here in the Forum)
They come with a very good instruction how to do the job.

Wolfgang
