Hi,

I currently have a pair of BL3 and a BL7 center speaker on my BV7. I am looking to complete the surround sound set-up with a BL11, but what to put in back.

I have read on other posts about BL4, BL4000, and BL3 as Back speakers. I wonder if BL3 would be too much. And BL4 not enough. And I don't have the space tp put anything bigger in Front ...

I would love some feedback and advice. Thanks !

I used to have a 7 with 8000's at the front and 6000's at the back. As they weren't that used by Beosystem 3 for the price, footprint and cosmetics they were perfect.

They are currently a bargain at the moment too, so you might have enough spare cash for a Beolab 2. Much recommended :-)

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

The Beolab 4 sound good for the size but The Lab 4000's are a much better speaker in every way, there again Beolab 3 would be anther jump up in sound and also the ALT on them, which you have at the mo!  Having a set of Beolab 3's all round would be the same in the set up!

Try and borrow a set of Beolab 4's...4000's and of course a set of 3's as well.

I use a Beolab 4000 for my center on the Bv7-32 in the bedroom with 6000's and the 4000 is really great as a single center! There great as surrounds too.

A member called Elephant on this forum has a set of Beolab 4's maybe he will post if he reads this, about his set?

Good Luck on what you decide!

Hi

The back speakers are not so important. I have the choice between 4 bl3 and bl3 in front with bl8000 in back. FInally I choose the second solution just because I love the look of the 8000 and the bl3 desserves more than the back position.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

I would suggest BL3

- balanced power if you select speaker4

- continued ALT and ice power technology

- last, esthetically balanced as well

I probably like Lab 4 more than most, especially as rear speakers.  I just don't care for the floor stands because of cable management. Plus you could run them through a BL11 for much less than the price of one BL3.  Another alternative is the BL12-1.  Very nice, but you have to convert the cables to RJ45.

Hi Scott,

I have a BeoVision 8-40 with BL3's as front, BL4's as back and a BL11 - AND I LOVE THEM!!!

I bought a pair of used BL4's a few years ago, because I couldn't afford anything else at the time, and they are actually okay. At some point I want to exchange them for something else, but I don't know to what. Have thought about both BL4000's or another pair of BL3's, but don't want to spend that much money on rearspeakers. Then I would rather buy a pair of BL9's as front, and move the BL3's to the back?! In my opinion the BL4 work great as rear speakers in a surround set with the BL3's and BL11 - alone as stereospeakers, I don't like them at all!!!

If you can borrow a set of BL4's and a BL11, then try them together with your BL3's. Big Smile

Kind regards
Claus

Yes !

I have experimented with BL4s as rears - and even 4 x BL4s (front & rears) to see (sorry hear) the effect of having the same speakers (my fronts are normally BL3s).

Unlike Claus and Symmes I was disappointed.

Maybe it was my choice of test movies.

Maybe I should have left it all running for a month.

So for me there was not enough oomphf !

But for my wife they were too much.

She really hates surround sound - she keeps look behind her to see what's going on Smile

And as mentioned having the right stands and cable management was a problem during my tests.

Another "no no" from the wife.

So I suspect that the BL4s would prove to be adequate - depending on the source movie.

Certainly I am happy with them playing music in small link rooms.
