I have just bought a Beogram 7000 system, amplifier, CD and tape deck. When a CD is inserted it displays TRACK, I hear the motor starting momentarily then everything stops and the machine returns to standby mode with just the red standby light on. What could be the problem here?
Also when the tape deck is activated the level lights and Dolby light come on and there is a loud high pitched squealing noise which stays on throughout all other actions. The internal deck does not automatically open, must be manually opened, nothing happens when any of the buttons on the deck are pressed but play does engage when PLAY is pressed on the outer control strip. What could the problem be here?
Many thanks for any replies
The problem my friend is the unit wants to hear hooters music, not Dionne.

Woof!! xx
The tape player needs new belts - both for the mechanism and the draw opening. The CD could just need cleaning - the top comes off very easily - but most likely needs an electronic fix - try cleaning first!!

Yes - always try cleaning the lens first. It's quite easy on most B&O CD players (except the CD50).A few years ago, I bought a 'non-functional' CD 6500 very cheap. After cleaning the lens it played like a dream -and it still does
But I have just bought another one - and in this case some cleaning was not enough. So i guess I'll contact 'dillen' for some new caps -and then it should be up and running again.
It looks to me like there is a clear plastic cover over the CD lens. Is this removed in order to clean the lens behind it. If so, how is it removed? Or is it cleaned another way. Also I notice that the CD rotates on a wobbly axis. The central axis has a ball joint type thing I notice. Could this be relevant?
Oh, could it be that a new laser was fitted and they forgot to remove a protection cap? Any photos please?
The wobbly CD holder thing (not the CD itself mind you) is normal. Stupid and ill-designed, but normal!

CD laser photo added - I tried to wipe it with IPA but the cover just rotates with the cotton bud
The CD rotates on a wobbly axis - is that right?
How do I clean it, I notice there is what appears to be a clear plastic cover over the laser, which rotates with the circular motion of a cotton bud. This doesn't look like the lens of the laser.
It's a year later and I might have a look at replacing these belts. How do I get at them and who has replacements? Dillen?
I'm talking about the tape deck here, the CD was sorted
Email me for belts.
