Hi Everyone,

Sorry to keep asking questions but you guys seem to know everything when it comes to B&O :)

I've recently noticed that the loudness light has a very slight glow even when the loudness mode is off.

Loudness functions properly and the light is as bright as ever when its switched on, but as I say when off its still lit although very very dimly... It may have been like this as long as I've had it and I've only just noticed its that dull.

Is this normal? If not is there anything I could look at?

Thank you all once again,

Lee

Can anybody with a beomaster 5000 confirm that this is normal behaviour?

Sorry to nag but I'm desperate to get this system working correctly.

OK, I've had a look - I'll preface what I saw by saying that I've had mine for approaching 30 years and never noticed!!

When in the off or standby mode there is nothing, when there is a source selected, in the "Loudness" off mode then the letters "LOUDN" are very slightly illuminated red. As you say, this does not interfere with the function and I've never noticed it until you said so.

(Now I'm paranoid)!!!Unsure

I'm sure it's OK!Big Smile

Mine is exactly the same as that, its only when a source is selected that you see a slight glow...

I wonder if they are all like this?

Rest assured - I've owned mine from new, nearly 30 years, and I've never noticed a deterioration!

Checked my BM 6500.  When it's off it's off.

It doesn't seem to affect anything but I'm a sucker for things being 'just right'

I had a PM with Dillen (Martin) and he thinks it could be a bad cap or a transistor out of spec.

But if 2x BM5000 are doing the same thing then maybe they are all like this..

Like I said its very dull, and you really have to look to see it, but its definitely got a dim glow.

The BM5000 and BM65000 are two very different beasts, but thanks for your input MediaBobNY

I sold mine years ago, but looking at the circuit diagrams it really seems to be like that by design (or rather, by a side effect of the design). If I'm looking at it correctly, the loudness leds (there are actually three in series) will receive a small current even when they're "off".

Thankyou tournedos, That makes me feel so much better :) I was starting to think it was going to have to go in for a repair.

Thanks Aaron,

I'm now confident its normal behaviour for the BM5000, Thanks to everyone for putting my mind at rest and saving me doing untold damage trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

This forum and its members are excellent :-)

Thanks again

Lee
