About sales (Ironic)

Or Price, unless there's been a radical up/downturn or the Pound Sterling?

Too long to list....

As seems to be typical of youtube videos, likes and dislikes are a small fraction of views. And not a single dislike of it at this point.

Well, actually not before the 31th, when the speakers are in the shop - or rather not before the 'haters' have had a chance to go to a shop (to look for themselves)....

....and maybe then 'the bullshit' comes even worse.

It seems like nothing can make a 'hardcore oldschool-BeoLover' change his mind.

I saw the Beolab 17s today....

I like the casing and the features, but the plastic grills are awful!!!

Have you also seen the impressive number of connections at the bottom?

I've seen it without the grill and am impressed by the size of the woofer. I haven't heard them, but I'm sure that they will impress..

Impressed, yep that's the word. Even the shape does...

Are you able to say which store/person you were visiting ?

Annie ? James ? Kym ?

My new avatar reads "anything unrelated to elephants is irrelephant" - except B&O (of course)

I saw them at Collins Street, they were just unpacking them!!

Oh, I definitely agree! I really like the speakers! I'm just not a fan of the plastic grill... The connections are very impressive, and they think the wireless unit will be around the $500 mark... I saw this too, and you can connect three pairs of speakers to it! It also has left and right RCA which confused me!?!

I was surprised by the optical input and output. And if wireless doesn't work, then (network)wired is also an option.

How are these speakers volume controlled? if you're using wired and/or optical. I know that wireless and via the powerlink audiosignals are controlled by the wireless unit or BV11/BS4.

@Jonathan,

how is the 'unit' connected to the BV?

Must be using the existing PowerLink-outputs?

@Beobuddy,

Are these optical inputs?

Would be the first time in the history of B&O, normally they use coaxial for digital connections.

Both, I think. Can't remember exactly.

Definitely, optical. That was the reason why I was surprised.

My dealer said their BL17's are now in, will be setting them up tomorrow. Looks like they'll be available to demo tomorrow or Wednesday, from most dealers.

Mind you, I've just committed to a new car, so my purchase is on the back-burner!

BeoBoy68:

Bang & Olufsen's portfolio should have 3 ranges:

The Classical, iconic products

The new Modern, with new Designers

The BeoPlay, fashionable

If the classical, iconic products had still been attractive to customers in 2013 they would have still been selling in sufficient quantities to still be on sale.

They weren't so they aren't.

I wouldn't buy BeoLab 8000/6000/4000 now compared to current offerings from other manufacturers even with all the latest tech built in.  I think they look old fashioned and very 90s.  I guess the decline in sales figures suggests I'm not that unusual.

The 90s btw is now back in full force. And this time it has geek mixed in.

They have showed that they can work without the ALT with their Beolab 14. Not that we have to discuss this speaker but look have many have seen the speaker on youtube= 1,800,000 people that is impressive.

I do not think that through the testing of this speaker they did not have focus on the ALT and it's way to perform in a sitting position.

I do not think this speaker is for me but I love the wood and hope to see a lot of that in the future.

I think ALT is completely unnecessary and in fact wasteful.

When will B&O finally launch a surround sound bar? It is long overdue!

I saw the Beolab 17's yesterday when i was in the Richmond store. I don't mind the outside look of the back of them, just the gaping hole with the plastic mesh is nothing to get excited over. Maybe a black fabric is an option?

Sound on the other hand, yes they do sound quite good.

Like the Beolab 7-2!

Come on guys don't rock the boat!

If B&O hear your suggestion they might make something that people in numbers actually want to buy!

With customers going into showrooms and buying products it could throw the whole distribution into chaos.

Its just not geared up for selling things.......

Whilst down in London I have seen numerous stores selling the B&W Panorama sound bar.

It's not cheap but according to the sales folk it's flying out the door. Their problems is getting enough of them! People seem happier investing in sound equipment to go with a TV, as opposed to spending a lot on what is an ever evolving technology in panels.

So why not a 7-2 optimised for plug and play, and surround whatever.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

....anyway, back on topic...

I'm hoping the new subwoofer is somewhere between the Beolab 2 and the Beolab 11. I'm guessing it is geared more towards music?

That's what I'm hoping too, Jonathan. And if the new subwoofer has a wooden body, you can hide it (like the Playmaker). In former times you could proudly present your new B&O devices, today you have to hide it...

Yes. Soundbars pricey and is under the lifestyle genre. It's right up B&O's alley! I want something stylish and with no subwoofers required. Perhaps wireless subwoofer optional? B&W is such a mainstream brand. I wanna stay niche and snobby. Lol

anyway I am so glad B&O seem to be listening in to the posts in the forum. Wireless 7.1 channel 24bit compatibility and revised lab8000s? How very responsive.

B&O is finally acting like a lifestyle brand again. Upscale Bose? Why not? Just focus on your target market and do it convincingly.

Is the wooden grill suppose to be some kind of acoustic lense to disperse the midrange to match up with the treble? I quite enjoy the design but again I agree with others that the lenses look like an afterthought. Seriously why even bother?!

Anyway I imagine the lab8000 replacement looking quite sharp with a variety of wood colours like black ash, rosewood or even bright neon stained wood colours. Or multicolored with individual stripes in a different colour.

oh I just thought of a solution to solve the lens on top conundrum! Simply introduce a grill option that extends all the way up to the top of the speakers!

Designers today don't really take chances anymore! Those speakers look like Linn's retired  Komponent surround speakers. In fact the Beolab17 is more linn than linn is , it's a hybrid of two of linn's speaker design the Komponent and the Kiko.

Btw the 90s arts and craft look is all back now. So brace yourself for a major shift in the whole design world to go arty quirky techy.

I am glad to see the Beolab 17 have interchangeable facias, as the one presented isn't to my taste at all.

I am also pleased to see that the beolab 18 come with black or white lamella. The wood just doesn't do it for me.

Seriously.... The criticized "Beolab8003", or the BL18 as it's called in real life, is far the best one of those 3 ugly bastardos....

I'm sorry, I just feel I need to speak out for the mistakes being done by a company I love!

These three speakers will not make it far.

Just showed the pictures to my wife, and the black and white photo posted above, is not from the movie "Psycho", it's a picture of Eva!

Too long to list....
