I like the new designs. 8003 looks good to me. Beolab 19 looks great for a subwoofer. Much better than the Beolab 2 if you ask me. And if it performs to that standard, I think it is a damn nice subwoofer and I definitely think about getting one. Not too many subwoofers around from B&O. Beolab 11 also looks good but doesn't perform too well. So, Beolab 19 hopefully fills in that gap. I also like the 17s. It's an original new and fresh design. The fact that many people don't like the new design at first only underlines that. Let's see what happens when more people see it and start to get used to it. I can't see any of the new products being ugly or not well-thought. But then again, that's just my opinion.

Rgds,

Kai

Bang & Olufsen 'just' posted a new YT video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsZhCO-wB0o

It shows all three new speakers, and I actually like the BL17 a lot

enjoy

I really want to get the lab 18 but I am afraid I might chop it's lens off and neither do I like the dual mid woofer implementation! Sigh... The freaking lens! Either hide it or eliminate it. It's bad mojo. And with dual mid woofer, a D'appolito configuration is favored - tweeter in center.

Not great in terms of design but they definitely scream "luxury". I might just get the lab17 as a compromise. Just because it offers the best set of compromises.

The 18 with the white composite lamella looks beautiful. May be just what I have been looking for to use as rears with my white 9s.

Anyway I imagine the lab8000 replacement looking quite sharp with a variety of wood colours like black ash, rosewood or even bright neon stained wood colours. Or multicolored with individual stripes in a different colour.

Ick!

Seriously.... The criticized "Beolab8003", or the BL18 as it's called in real life, is far the best one of those 3 ugly bastardos....

I'm sorry, I just feel I need to speak out for the mistakes being done by a company I love!

These three speakers will not make it far.

Just showed the pictures to my wife, and the black and white photo posted above, is not from the movie "Psycho", it's a picture of Eva!

Maybe you are just in love with the picture you created of Bang & Olufsen Whistle

nobody mentions the fact that B&O have also licensed the technology that powers these Beolabs wirelessly, no electric plugs, no cable clutter, no wires, placement of the Beolabs anywhere in the room that you like

fabulous AMAZING technology that you can buy next month 😜

No in no way am I joking.  Believe it or not people in the design world have a lot less taboos than most. You can make anything work if you know how to appropriate them well.

I just have a thought! Are the grills suppose to slide on the Lab 18s? Maybe it was meant to be slide upwards when you don't want to see the lens and slide down when you do.

Omg! I might be right! I think I spotted the grills fully up in the video! I thought the grills were extending a little too low for a right fit.

i am officially placing an order.

edit: false hope. I think it was just the camera angle.

edit 2: nope I think B&O still has surprises for us during the launch so I might not be off.

Wow I am impressed that B&O finally responded and decide to do open platform for the inputs!

Okay I am officially freaked out by the coincidences. Most of the stuff I suggested....

and why does the lab 17 have more bass the 18? I think it's supposed to double up as near field sound monitors.

BeoLab Transmitter 1 & BeoLab Receiver 1 both seem cool ! :-) Speakers don't have any harmony between them... David Lewis products had a coherent style ! ;-)

^on a plus side, the tech sounds great and it's backwards compatible....

Also, I don't mine the new BL18s  - still prefer the older ones in terms of design.

The BL 19 looks OK.

I'm OK with the 17 and the 19, may even like them more when I see them in the flesh, but I still ain't feeling that 18. I have the 8000's, and to my eye they are much better balanced. If I were going to change the 8000s, I would have tried to maybe make them a bit taller, a tiny bit larger in diameter maybe, with smallest form factor electronics possible (maybe even put in the base) to allow another bass driver optimized for low end to extend their range a bit. Maybe have an ALT sticking out of the fabric where the tweeter is now, not stuck on top like an afterthought.

Still, to my eyes the BL2 and BL4000 are a bit better looking and more well matched to the other speakers in the old BL line. They say the 17 has a coax driver? Tweeter over the woofer? Interesting, shades of Tannoy.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

You really have to see these in the flesh. I promise they don't look bad.

Once you listen to them you'll love them...

Just heard the lab17's at my local dealer, very impressed. They were connected to a V1 (which I have) and the source was a NAS. Such a big powerful sound, the low end they kick out for the size is amazing, just the right amount in my opinion, gave them a nice full sound even at low volumes. I am a fan and happen to be in the market for some speakers as want to replace my 6000's as they were just as stop gap (bought pre owned). These may well be the ones. The wireless transmitter is £370 I am pretty sure and looked very neat. Not a fan of the 17's cracked glass affect fret though!

How does the system work exactly?

I know the direct connection will be simple enough but how about the wireless? How do you control the speakers? Do the transmitter need to be in the same room and hooked up to wifi or does it have a local network by itself?

The BLab18 does look a bit better now in pics on the B&O site.

The other two. Pure horror.

Too long to list....

The 17 would appear to have more bass pressure than the 18. One 6" driver compared to 2 x 4". The tweeter is not concentric but set to one side on a diagonal.

It works exactly as it would with wires, the V1 controls volume etc. V1 is wired to the transmitter then transmitter connects wirelessly to the (in this case 17's) integrated wisa tech. I don't think if will use your network it's just wireless from transmitter to 17's. Not sure of the range, to be honest the wireless part is not too important to me, will probably wire them to start with, you still need the power leads either way. Wireless aside, these are very good speakers, I prefer to the Lab 3. Just my opinion of course.

Yeah that is something I don't get . The Lab18 is looking like not as attractive sound performance wise. There's the dual mid woofers which will inevitable cause phase cancellation problems in the overlapping mids and then there is the limited bass and not to mention all that hassle that put into blending the cones with the lens using fins.

i might be right again about the ALT. Too much hassle for too little.

And doesn't B&O have the Beolab12s in the same price bracket with ALT lenses too?

What's exciting are the open platform and wireless technologies but the products seem a little confused. I don't think B&O can suffer through any more failures.
