Sorry if I'm asking a question already answered, only I can't find an answer to my problem.
We have a Beovision Avant combined DVD/TV, purchased in 2003 and I love it!
Unfortunately today it's developed a problem with the DVD player. It's been on for a few hours (bad weather so early Christmas films!!), but DVD's are freezing whilst the DVD player becomes louder and whirring faster. I tried changing DVD's, no luck, and I've just tried to open the cover with the release button on the back and the DVD was just flung across the room at speed!
Could it simply be over-heating or is there a fault?

OK, the DVD has now stopped working can still hear it whirring as it's attempting to work but the lid keeps on opening with the LOAD message.
Is this the end of the road of our beloved TV ad we're lost without the DVD player......HELP!!
Try cleaning the lens with a Q-tip and isopropyl (pure alcohol). If this gives you no luck, then I would suggest either buying a DVD1 and connecting it through the Scart connection on the back or enquiring about replacing the DVD mechanism....

I finally got round to fitting the replacement DVD mechanism to my own Avant DVD at the weekend, but the upshot was, it refused to work on it, so do beware if you buy a secondhand one. Talking to Tim Jarman, he said this is quite a common situation as B&O did change communications protocols within the units and not all mechanisms are transferrable.
However, two things then happened - firstly I put it all back together with the old mechanism and decided to try it out to make sure it was all back together properly - upshot was it loaded the DVD and played perfectly for over an hour and a half!
Secondly, my wife and I were shocked at just how much better the Avant's picture is than our Beovision 7 that we bought last year. As a result, we have decided it's madness to have an expensive television in the lounge that we don't really like whilst a superior set is unused in the study. Consequently, the BV7 is going to be sold in the next few weeks.
Of course, I realise that in all likelihood, the Avant's tube will fail within a week of the BV7 going but, hey, you've got to take risks now and then!
Maybe a BV12 is an option? That will do forget your avant fast...
About the mechanism, there were 2 different types fitted. A philips and a Pioneer version. They only could be swapped complete with the (software) mainboard.
I made exactly the same decision after buying my BV7 too! I sold it after a year or so. It is a mad world sometimes and yes, all about taking risks. I do agree with you though that it is pointless having an expensive tv these days as the technology is just extinct too quickly. Much as I love B&O I find myself looking at and intrigued more now by up to date technology for so much less, Panasonic ZT/VT models for example. I love the new 4K Sony tv with built in speakers either side too and for the outset of a second-hand B&O tv I could get a 55" OLED which quite simply is incredible. What always makes the decision harder though, is when you consider integration, sound bars and remotes etc, and this is why I keep coming back to B&O, but only to look, I haven't yet spent any more money. B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.
