Spotted this in the print edition of the UK's 'Daily Mail' newspaper today...
Would you? I was convinced that B&O were squeezing out franchised dealers in favour of a company owned distribution model but it seems I was wrong! Or, being cynical, is it a great opportunity for B&O to bring some money in.. You've got the profits on the shop fixtures and fittings, profits on all the sampled opening stock, plus the "please the board and shareholders" element of being able to say "we're opening new stores in a recession - so we're bucking the trend and striding towards the future.. etc.. etc.."
What do we think?
If it's in the Daily Mail then I will use part of my quarter million pound salary to invest in this. (For no British Nationals, the Daily Wail is fanatically anti GP and says we earn millions for doing nothing!)

Almost - it's the only newspaper in the coffee shop I frequent every morning.. My iPhone went flat (I usually browse the news on that) and the local paper was being ardently read by two elderly ladies complaining about the story on rubbish collection (or lack of it) in the town.
So it was either read the Daily Mail, or stare at a formica worktop. The Daily Mail just edged it..

No, you use £125,000 of your own money, then borrow another £125,000 from a bank. Not sure where the £20k difference comes into play, but the minimum "investment" is £325,000 including VAT at 20%.
Yes, you'll get the VAT back if you manage to turn over £77,000 a year and need to register for VAT (tongue in cheek there, sorry) - so you'll be parting with £270,000 to open your own small store. That's a lot of money, and I wonder how much initial stock that includes..

That sound more like it. It frightened me enough that I decided against. At the time I wanted to get into what I saw as the start of the home automation and CI industry and thought a name above the door like B&O would help attract the right customers, and that by offering B&O and also gaining a reputation for CI it would have benefited all concerned in that B&O would get another store and some more turnover, even if not every store visitor would buy a full B&O system.
They wouldn't have it. Classed it as Shop in Shop. Seems short sighted to me, most of the succesful dealers seem to be doing these things anyway but aren't allowed to advertise services that may well bring people with big budgets into the stores. even if they just buy one BV11 as part of the overall job it keeps a dealer in business and generates some sales for them.

Well Lee, I would have the money, but definitely not the "drive". As my drive isn't set on cruise into a concrete wall! Just as yours isn't.

While I agree the advert is rubbish, and doesn't look genuine, I am pretty sure they haven't discontinued BV11?

I agree it looks like a scam - but I went back to look at the picture (I too had thought the product picture was bad/dated) and noticed that the B&O main site was also mentioned, so I went to see if there was any reference to franchises ....
(I don't know how old the page is, but the video it links to had a release date of April2 2013)

I am a (silent) partner in a CI business and I know we can buy Loewe without being a dealer, and have obviously seen the CU adverts.
If we can do the same for B&O that would be good for us.
I'd be proper grumpy if I had take. Up that franchise a few years ago though.

Doubt that is the case, the company owned B & O dealer I use in Scotsdale, AZ (I ive in another state), was recently sold to a private B & O franchisee out of Austin, TX who also owns another shop in Houston, TX & Denver, CO. I believe this is store #4, he owns, privately held and doing quite well.
