I was wondering.

Has anyone already have a working combination of a Beo6 and a beomaster 5 without the Beosound 5?

By that I mean having albumcovers on the Beo6?

I know that several features are only unlocked if you have a BS5, like for instance the twonky media (nas)server option.

Did anyone tweak the BM 5 software internally to get this working?

I'm considering buying a Beomaster5 with Beo6, so this question is really interesting...

I was not aware, that some festures of two-way communication are not available if no Beosound5 is present. Beobuddy, where did you get this info? Unfortunately the manuals are not very helpful with only a Beomaster connected to a Beovision :-(

By own experiennce.

Some settings can be made, like the nas function, on a BS 5.

This specific setting can't be made in the BM5 configuration menu. Not  even in the extra "service"menu.

I'm also wondering if an extra analog - USB convertor will be visible in the BM5 menu as a A.AUX function. At the BS5 it does appear in the main menu.

So you already have the BM5 and it doesn't work with the Beo6 - bad news :-(

The funny thing is, I asked the service guy at my dealer the same question and he told me that it will work. I will ask for a demonstration before I buy!

Will let you know the outcome....

Have been at the local dealer to test some things with Beomaster/Beosound 5.

It is unfortunately fact that the Beomaster will not offer two-way communication with a Beo6. Furthermore it does not offer MOTS and will also not act as uPnP musicserver.

If anyone knows a secret how to enable two-way and MOTS without Beosound5 please tell me!

No, but keep in mind, even if a tweak works now - it might be disabled during the next  SW-Update.

As an attachment the list of supported functions  "BM5 & TV versus BSd5/BM5 & TV"

Today I saw a software update appear on the BM5. It announces the 2 way communication with the Beo6.

If you enter the service menu on the BM5, basically the windows desktop, you can clearly see the Twonky media server software.

You can manually setup this software and add some specific settings, like an media device "bang & Olufsen" with a certain Mac address.

So, occasionally I will try to work out if it's possible. I keep in mind that the BM5 has all the software on board for working with the BS5 (MOTS etc) and Beo6.

The main question is, how does the Beo6 communicate with the BM5?

About the tweak.

It depends what kind of tweak. I installed additional software for my Logitech keyboard/mouse (K400) and had installed some remote software in the past to tweak the system from a distance. That kind of tweaks remains.

Thanks for the comparision Vienna.

But the stand alone BM5 doesnt have MOTS.

The MOTS  works only if an BS 5 is attached. I''ve tried that at a family member's BM5. I 've installed a demo BS5 and after that the BM5 starts it's algorithm software. Which took almost a week to complete.

The main question is, how does the Beo6 communicate with the BM5?

To display cover and selection lists for album, title, ... 2.4GHz WiFi and your network (LAN and/or WiFi)
IR to control the BM5 via TV and/or BSd5

Assuming you already have a WiFi Router / Access Point.
The BM5 is connected to the same network.
"Security Mode" of Router/ AP is set to WPA2 (the Beo6 does not support WEP).

-  enable wireless on your Beo 6

- maybe you'll need a firmware update for the Beo 6 to version 2.11a via the Beo 5/6 config tool

- tell the Beo 6 the (preferably static) IP adress of the BM5

- log on your Beo 6 to the Access Point of your network
Beo 6 supports WPS - depending on your settings you can use WPS , AUTO or MANUAL

- if you have additional APs - repeat the Log-On  for each AP

Thanks Vienna, I did this indeed this afternoon.

The next step is probably to configure the Twonky Media software in the BM5.

I've tried this, but without succes so far.

I"ve made some pictures from the Beo6.

  With the wifi settings.

Everything on your pics looks as it should be!
I'm using the "full combo version" - my experience with BM 5 as a stand alone unit is therefore a bit limited, sorry ...

Do you remember the name of the MOTS process?

I don't know if it's interesting, but it's possible to start the BS5 sw from the service menu of BM5 and then you can activate the Media server and try if two way communication works.

To start the BS5 sw from the service menu of BM5 you search for and file called BeoSound5.exe. When you dubble click on this file it will crasch the first time but the second time you do it it will launch the Beosound5 display (make sure you have high enough screen resolution so that the whole display is shown). Now you can control the laser beam with the keys "a" and "s", and do selections with arrows, enter and "g" (GO).  Just follow the manual to activate the Mediaserver and it will launch in the background. It is also possible to change language, add songs to playlists etc.

When you close the service menu, the mediaserver will continue to run in the background. But after a restart, it will not come up automatically :-(

The MOTS process never finished, anyone with some ideas how to get it working?

After some tweaking with the registry settings I got MOTS working also (and the Beosound5 s/w doesn't crash anymore). So now I have both Music Server and MOTS running with only a Beomaster 5. :-)

Hi Lano,

What did you change in the registry to get MOT working?

Regards

Toby

From my head (away for the weekend): Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Bang & Olufsen/Beosound5/Settings you have two registry records, one for Beomaster5 and one for Beosound5. For me, both where set to four (4). After that I changed the record for Beosound 5 to one (1) it stopped crashing and MOTS started to work. After that you have changed the value you can try to launch the Beosound5.exe from the service menu. If it doesn't crach, restart the Beomaster 5 and launch Beosound5.exe from the task manager (ctrl+alt+del, new task) without going into the service menu and you should be good to go with MOTS. If you would like to activate the media server or do some other changes, you will have to launch the Beosound5.exe from the service menu and control it using the keyboard.

Nice to see that someone is trying to get the WiFi going...

But Lano, as I understand correctly, You've attached an extra monitor to the BM5, where normaly the BS is connected through DVI-HDMI?

I know you can start (remotely) the Beosound5.exe. But does it need the extra monitor for it? Because of the extra monitor, I'd lose the remote through the BV9 screen.

No, I have not connected a monitor to the BS5 connection. If you launch Beosound5.exe in the service menu it will be shown on the normal screen.

My keys/options in the registry where different. set the Beosound from 3 to 1 (decimal) and started the procedure.

Needed som time to figure out how to get the arrow on the screen, but it starts working. Up and Down here goes with A and Z.

Managed to enter the BS service menu and to activate the Mediaserver option.

But despite setting the Beo6 to wifi with the BM5's ip as server-ip, no pictures are displayed yet.

Maybe, it takes some time or a reboot.

Wife has takenover the telly now, so tomorrow more trying. Thanks so far.

Couldn't resist, so tried again and made some progress.

As I turned on the Mediafunction in the servicemenu on the BS5 screen displayed (arrow right, left, right, left, G(o)), I continued with focussing on the Beo6.

I have reprogrammed the Beo6 with the configtool as told here: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/4614.aspx

and now the NMusic funtion with covers works on the Beo6 !!!

Choosing between covers and/or choosing among the first letters of a Artist or Album, adds far more value to the Beo6.

So, one of next things is to set the MOTS function in the BS5 servicemenu to "ON", and see what happens.

The only downside is  that the navigatemenu from the original BM5 is gone and the BS5 menu doesn't fit properly. But hey, that's probably the price to pay for experimenting.

So, I had some time spending with the Beo6 and the Master5 working together.

But since the Spotify update I can't get this working on my BV9 screen.

After starting any of the Sources NMusic, NRadio or Spotify, the BV9 will be shut down. I can only see the spotify menu for a short time. I've entered (after setting the BM5 in "master" mode, spotify appears as possible source. I've managed to enter my account in the spotify section, so that's done

But what next? How can I start any of the sources without the BV9 being shut down? Especially the spotify mode?

Any thoughts?
