Absolutely, but likewise, love Lifestyle AV as I do for their products and service (personally as well as Beoworld) I also think this 7/10 Beomaster 4400 is optimistic!

I think I paid 60€ for mine and it's mint in comparison.

I didn't list that in fairness - Matt did whilst I was away..  Whistle

However, in his defence all i say when listing the older equipment is "have a look at sold examples on eBay, then take into account condition of what we're selling - then also take into account we've got to give a warranty, and repairs on the older items are sometimes labour intensive (and costly) - plus, finally, we pay VAT and Tax to our wonderful UK Government"

Here is what he went on..

Hi Lee,

no defence needed.  I accept that your costs are much higher than the 'average' eBay seller and have to be inbuilt into the sale.  I hope you do find a buyer for this as it is a wonderful amp.

The older equipment is carrying a premium at the moment and I've seen Beogram 6000's and 4000's offered for up to 1000€ (in one case 2000€!).  Absurd, but if someone wants to part with their money that easily, I may put some of my upwards of 400 items up for sale!

Optimism is a good thing to have anyway.

Well b****r me if it hasn't gone from Lifestyle AV!  Fantastic result Lee.  I'm sure the buyer will be thrilled.  Another oldie saved for future use and enjoyment.

You should have said something - not to gloat as I know you wouldn't!  It's a good indicator of market value and is interesting to note, especially for some sellers on for e.g. eBay, who are Beoworld members.

I've no problem with higher prices so long as there is 'value', which you do give in quality goods, service, knowledge, honesty etc.

I think that the LifeStyle price is very fair.

Whoever you bought yours from Dave, you robbed them. I trust that it was some French widow who had to sell her husbands treasured hi fi to earn enough to put some food on the table or heat her tiny room in the winter!

Graham,

I didn't 'rob' anyone!   I bid in a straightforward auction on eBay.de and was the highest bidder.

My main point was that Lifestyle AV only gave the 4400 7/10 and as Leslie points out, it doesn't have the pre-set cover either, as well as some cosmetic damage.  If the unit was mint (like the ones Martin Dillen usually sells), I may concur with the valuation.  However, it has bought by someone who obviously thought that it was a fair price or a price they were prepared to pay.  The original post was about optimistic prices and as this proves, an item is only worth what anyone is prepared to pay for it, or seller prepared to let it go for.

The values of vintage equipment are much, much harder to gauge to be fair.  It's totally subjective and often set on precedent - which is pretty much what we do.

You soon know if you've got it wrong.  If it's overpriced it'll hang around forever, and if it's underpriced it'll sell within minutes of being listed...

Going against all that - If you find the right buyer who really wants the vintage piece you have, you'll always get good money.  If you're selling it when nobody really wants one, you'll get peanuts for it.

What I'm trying to say is I've not really got a clue with the 60's and 70's stuff..  Unsure
