I have a Beovision 8-40 which was originally bought in Australia, although it has been in the UK for a couple of years. I recently moved to the USA. The TV has been unplugged for several months while in transit. I asked B&O here in New York what I needed to do to get it to work. They said it is universal voltage, so just get a new cable and plug it it.
I did that. The red standby light is on. When I select a source on the remote the light turns green, but nothing else seems to happen. Nothing appears on the screen. After five seconds or so, the light turns red again.
B&O now suggest it has been damaged. This seems unlikely to me. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I can confirm that the unit should work of 110 volts without modification.
It is possible that the unit has developed a fault, but my first question would be what is the four digit type number of the TV. It would be either 9560 or 9562 or 9563 ?
Regards Keith....
Keith,
Thanks for your help. It is a 9560.
I went out and got a step up/down transformer this morning. The TV works when plugged into it. This suggests to me that it isn't universal voltage, or that it doesn't just switch voltage automatically. Or could be just a fault.
I don't really want to keep using the external transformer indefinitely. It is huge and I've been told they use a lot of power. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks again,
Michael
OK Michael, we now have the answer to your problem.
Type number 9560 is a BeoVision 8-40 Mark 1 European only version which will not work on 110 volts
The BeoVision 8-40 Mark 2 will work in Europe and the US without modification and its power spec is:-
Europe Typically 162 Watts running and Standby of 0.5 Watts
US Typical 150 Watts running and Standby of 0.9 Watts
Accepted mains Voltage range 85-264 Volts at 47-63 Hz
Thank you for this. Do you know if I can have it modified to work?
Whilst it is possible, but in my view the cost could not be justified.
The BeoVision 8-40 Mark 1 uses hardware C2 and the Mark 2 uses hardware C2.3 which changes about 4-5 modules from Mark 1 to Mark 2
The two key modules which would have to be changed are:-
It would be cheaper to purchase a pre-owned BeoVision 8-40 Mark 2
