Does anybody know if a Beo1 remote can be used for other B&O equipment apart from the Beocenter 1

I am not sure for other B&O equipment but with my BV8-26 it didn't work.
I presume it was designed/developed only for Beovision/Beocenter 1

Yes. Beo1 can act as a (limited) Beo4 in video mode. So you can control every BV (and linked audio sources) with your Beo1.
You have to reprogram your Beo1 to Beo4 mode.

My Beo 1 is just a collectors piece. It would not reprogram successfully, and I suspect that that is the experience of about 50% of those who try.
i have a suspicion that many that appear for sale on the likes of eBay have already failed the reprogramming and that is why they are being sold (often with the suggestion that the buyer can reprogram it).

I had to try re-programming several times on both my Beo1s, and eventually it just worked. I seem to remember taking the batteries out a couple of times to 'clear' it before re-trying! It may be worth persevering!
