Hi. As some of you may have gathered from my post below I've found the stereo box to go with my Beolab 5000. Problem is I'm not sure how to connect it up. There are 2 cables, one of which presumably should go to the middle speaker output and the other to the centre speaker. But there are also 2 inputs which look like they should also connect to speakers. Does anyone have a manual or could anyone tell me how it works?
Thank you
Fergus,
I've never seen one of these though I've been searching for one for over 2 years! A picture would be useful. Frede at Classic Audio would be able to detail this for you as he's the 5000 system expert - he restored my full system (minus a stereo width box).
One cable should come from the centre speaker outlet (label 36 on the schematic I hope to attach) and the other to the centre speaker.
What you say may be 'inputs', I think at least one of them will be the headphone jack socket as using this box is the only way of using headphones with this system, which plug into this stereo width box.
As a last resort, I was hoping to find someone with this box who could send it to Frede or Martin Dillen to examine and construct a replica.
I do have a Beovox 3000 which I may reluctantly let go (though it is part of a pair) but it may be better to try for the one on Markplatz that Leslie showed you. If you don't get that one, come back to me.
I can't attach a pdf. but if you PM me and give me your e-mail, I can send you a copy of the diagram.
Dave.
Hey dave
Thanks for your advice. I contacted Frede last night and he quite promptly forwarded me a pdf of the stereo box! Now I just need a 3000 to go with it. Unfortunately I don't have a pc at the moment so I can't log in to marktplaats but I will as soon as I get it fixed. Hopefully it will still be available.
If you can find someone to make you a replica then of course I'll help you out. Let's keep in touch about it.
Lastly, I have original manuals for the beosystem so that's no problem. Thanks anyway.
OK Fergus,
can you send me the info you got from Frede?
Thanks,
Yes. I'll try attach it here asap. Frede said he wouldn't mind.
I should hope not - he's been looking for this box for me for the last 2 years too!
Should have my pc back in a few days. I'll post photos and pdf then. In the meantime what's your email?
I believe it's all here already.

Hey Mika,
many thanks. I vaguely remember seeing some of this a while ago when I was getting my system restored by Frede but couldn't find it again. Thanks for the link.
I'd still like an original stereo width box though as the rest of the system is complete!
Lots about it there already! Dave I guess you don't need that pdf frede sent me then?
Not if it's the same.
Actually it's different! I have a copy of the original manual so I'll go ahead and attach it ASAP.
So, tonight I hooked up the stereo box for the first time using a vintage Jamo as centre speaker and I have to say I'm quite happy with the results.
Firstly, as a headphone amp, it's really excellent. It's got a lovely warm sound to it. Secondly as a means to add a centre speaker its also very cool. It seems to combine the sound of both channels then eq's it depending on your selection from very narrow to very wide. My listening room is quite small and even though I only tried it for a very short time, I think it would be more effective in a larger room with more space between the speakers. I'll probably use it mainly to add more bass and also quite often as a headphone amp.
I'd love to know if anyone has tried one and what they think.
Also would like to take the opportunity to thank Llewelyn in Leicester for finding it and sending it to me before I'd even paid him a penny for it. Cheers Llewelyn.

Are you talking about Llewelyn G? If so, send him my regards, it's been a long time...

Thats him alright. I'll let him know!
Sorry, nothing to read here.

Hi Dave and everyone else
Just got my pc back one hour ago so sorry for the delay but here's the info I got from Frede. Hope it comes in handy!
Cheers,
Fergus
Hi Dave, I posted that info you were looking for last week. Hope it will come in handy.
Hi Fergus,
that's all great, thanks. Due to not being able to find an original box anywhere for the last 2 years or more, I've asked about fabricating new, 'duplicate' ones instead. I'll see how the costings come out.
Did you buy a Beovox 3000? There are some more on eBay at the moment.
Hey Dave, no I haven't bought one yet. I must have a look on Ebay again. Cheers for the tip!
would you believe that just as Frede at Classic Audio was investigating and costing out a production run of duplicates, an original has turned up. He's tested it and restored it so I now have one on its way to France. I expect I've paid a lot more for mine than yours! A frightening price but I need it to complete my system.
Wow! Congratulations! It hasn't made a huge difference for me because my room is quite small but it does add a certain 'je ne sais quoi' and it's great for headphones.
That's what I'm looking forward to. We have a big room and I've just got some H6 headphones!
I can't wait. It is being shipped tomorrow.
