Hi Guys,

When I purchased my beosystem 5000 it came with a couple of 2-pin speaker DIN splitters, didn't think anything about them and just put them away...  got them out today and realised they seem to be wired up strangely... can anybody shed some light onto what they are/were used for?

Thanks,
Lee

Possibly somebody wanted to connect two (low impedance) speakers and wanted to increase the impedance/load by connecting in series, rather than in parallel which would have reduced the impedance/load to a level which the amplifier would not like.

At first I thought it was to create a derived rear channel, but that would use the output from both channels and that is not the case here.

Agree. Speaker connectors seem to be wired in series.

Yup, the person that did that split, knew what he was doing and had put some thoughts into it.

As impendance kurve can be dramatic with some speakers, serial connection can actually give a freshness to the sound as the load on the amp is easier, eventhough lower output.

My re-capped M75 are my precious diamonds.
