As per tittle really.. Is it possible to connect an Apple TV box to a non HD BV5?
Thanks in advance.
Hi is yours with or without DVI ?
Hi Brian,
Which Apple TV do you want to connect? The ATV1 (Silver) or ATV2 (Black).
If it is ATV2 you will need adapters etc as already mentioned if it is the ATV1 it is easy using this info form a post I sent in the old forums
You will need to deal with the scart to component/composite issue. The ATV1 only gives "component out" natively and all scarts on the BV5 are composite?
you need one of these -
Make sure your scart to composite adaptor is an "input" one and not an "output" one ie the 3 coloured sockets "input" to the scart. (You can get input & output types and switched models which make setup easier.)
First you need to get the picture & sound to come on screen - it will be black & white initially (using the component out on the ATV1 to scart in on BV5). My ATV1 is set up on my Beovision5 and in the settings menu V.TAPE was set to STB (V.AUX) and I had to add V.AUX to my Beo4.
On the adaptor connect the red & white to the Audio L&R on the ATV1 and the yellow to the green on the ATV1. Ensure the scart is pressed well into the TV as they can sometimes not sit properly. Now when you turn on you should see the black & white picture from the ATV.
I then bought this (aTV Flash) to get the colour fix. Once installed you will see the instructions on their website how to enable colour via composite, follow the instructions, turn off & on and Voila - it works.
Or you can try this or this free fix which is what I used initially. (like the author of that thread I found that info on http://www.appletvhacks.net/ and know it works.)
I use my Beo4 or Beo5 as a remote using the STB controller and the Apple Remote option. You must ensure the ATV1 is not paired with the remote it comes with, and DO NOT pair it to the STB controller remote. ATV Flash is brilliant and I actually use XBMC that comes with it all the time as a media centre.
Hope that helps and good luck
