Hi

I picked up a beogram2200 with out a cartridge, before a invest in an expensive cartridge I would like to know that i am seeing normal behavior.

the manual turn    turns the platter fine.

when i press the play button nothing happens, is this normal when there is no cartridge?

Welcome to Beoworld,

as a fully automatic turntable, you will notice that the black centre spindle can be pressed down.  This is the record detection system.  Without a record on the turntable, pressing play will do nothing.  The 'turn' function allows you to clean a record without the tonearm moving across.  Try with a record on the turntable having ensured all transit screws have been unfastened first.

Dave.
