Hi forum friends,

I have a question about positioning of Beolab 11.

As I've already shared with you I'm constructing multi media stuff in my kitchen and now I want to add Beolab 11 since I could not get enough details in 55 m2 just with beolab 4000s. However, I can just install Beolab 11 in between the 4000s which is around 2,2 meter high. Can i get same effect as it is on the floor?

The second question is what will happen if I install Beolab 11 on the same line (again 2,2 meter high) as 4000s. Not in between but 2,5 meter left from the speaker on the left side.

I'm going to ask for demostration in anyway but if it will not work as it should be what kind of other alternatives I have? Can be also from different brand just to hide somewhere under the cupboard!!

Here is the photo

Thanks

Beopiranha

An interesting question and certainly a challenge !

If we were to take a leaf from the Bose book there would be no hesitation in saying that the subwoofer should be placed at floor level.

Certainly my BL11 does not appear to need to be sensitive to directions.

I have had it in two positions, both on the floor:

  1. firstly supporting two BL3s mounted at hip height with a BV8's centre speaker
  2. secondly supporting two BL 6000s that were floor standing

I know the B&O manual recommends a central placement between the speakers, but for the latter case the BL 11 is positioned at 10% from the left hand 6000, and 90% from the right hand 6000.

So I recommend you arrange to borrow a BL 11 and experiment with various settings, starting at floor level and then raising it progressively.

Hi Elephant,

it is a challange.  I have 2.60 m high ceiling. If I'm going to install the Beolab 11 at 2.20 m with the hight of the unit itself; I possibly will get exactly the same effect as it is on the floor...

I've asked this question just to have members oppinion or to learn from people with an experiance on this subject.

Tomorrow, I'm flying for my holiday and when I'm back first thing I'll do get a Beolab 11 and test all the possiblities. I will be reporting the results here accordingly....

Oops... sorry... I hit "Verify" instead of "reply" and I can't seem to undo that. Oh well..

The suggested central placement of a BeoLab 11 (or any subwoofer, for that matter) is a "best case" scenario. Typically, when I'm doing demos in the listening room here at B&O in Struer, it's not uncommon for me to have the BL11 to one side, sitting under one of the two BL3's with which I demo it. the BL3's are typically sitting on a wall shelf with a height of about 1 m - 1.2 m, give or take...

I would guess that, as long as the sub isn't too far away from your speakers in terms of a lateral angle (i.e. you don't want to have the speakers in front of you, and the sub behind you) you shouldn't have too much of a problem. This is true even if your sub is on the floor someone under the speakers. You can help to "hide" the location of the BL11 (audibly speaking, that is...) by putting it in a corner (i.e. where the floor meets the wall, or where the floor meets two walls) however, this will also cause your room modes to be more audible. (In fact, this is why it's harder to hear the location of the sub - because the room is ringing and the sound (at the resonant frequencies, at least) is coming from everywhere at the same time...)

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi Geoff,

thank you very much for your feedback and sharing your experiance with us.

I bought Beolab 11 yesterday after 10 min. of demo :) The performance for that kind of room has been satisfiying. Honestly, still far away from audiophile level (because of the shape of the room, materials of the room "glass, tiles etc." and of course small size speakers) but  Beolab 4000 + Beolab 11 combination is a great solution to have high qualtiy sound up to certain loudness if you have problem with a free space for stand-alone speakers. I can imagine that result will be even better with Beolab 3...

Regarding the positioning, you are definitely right to say "it does not matter where it is as long as the distance not that big". I've tried under the speakers, in between the speakers and outside of the speakers. Of course there is slight differences on bass power depending on location. I took the best senario and decide to install Beolab 11 in between the speakers. By the way, it gives almost same performance at 2,2 meters as it is on the floor.  I must also say that I install Beolab 11 paralell to the speakers. The bass performance has been very low when I've used the powerlink outs of BL11 for the speakers. The room is simply to big for this small monster ;)

Additional information... Beolab 11 has nothing to do with Beolab 2. There is no reall punch but it helps and feels the gap of small speakers. You can really enjoy your music hear the difference like day and night. You'll make a mistake with Beolab 11 if you are TECHNO junky :)

Photos will follow...

Do you have any experience with the combination BeoVision 8-32/Ouverture/BeoLab 6000 and BeoLab 11?

The sound with BeoVision 8 as the master ist abolutely dreadfull, with the Ouverture as master the sound is stunning. What is the reason for the extreme difference?

Thanks a lot for opinions.

Beste Grüße / Best regards
