New house with Beo Speakers wired in

Hi

I have moved into a new house which the previous owner has set-up Beo speakers wired into several rooms.

However there is no Beo amplifier to power the system, but the speakers in the lounge are Beolab 2500.

I would like to make use of the existing set-up but need advice as the connectors seem to be quite old.

There are 4 x 8 pin plugs together with a 16 pin connector to plug into a device plus a another 16 pin connector to plug into a wall socket.

Can anyone please tell me what options I have re: buying the correct used Beo amp or possibly getting some connector adapters to fit newer kit?

Any advice to get the system working one way or another would be much appreciated.

Welcome to Beoworld, there are several options you can go for. First thing is to test all cables for continuity but it does sound like they should be intact.

Next you need select what you want, cd tape mp3

Ideally I would like to use my iPod, however cd would be the next best option.

You could start with a Beosound Ouverture (or similar), good match for the Beolab 2500 and has got Masterlink Connection.

So, only Masterlink and 4 Powerlink plugs/cables.

Looks like there has been a TV in this area....(with Dolby surround) OR  4 Speakers attached to one Music System.

Do you happen to know where the Powerlink (8 pin cable) cables run to?
Maybe there are wall plugs where activer Speakers have been.
Would work with an ouverture for Audio only as well (or any other System that can drive active Speakers).

Masterlink is for room to room Distribution of the Sound.

Am just looking for the simplest solution that would provide room to room sound.

Just to check that you have all the necessary kit in the bedroom and kitchen !

The 4000s probably have a BeoLink active box in the ceiling our cupboard and a connected, wall mounted "silver" disc that contains the IR eye to receive the source commands and volume+/-/0 from the remote beo4 ... Did you get a remote with the house ?

The bedroom could have active (eg 4000) speakers or beovox passives - this would vary the type of BeoLink black box you have (most likely in the ceiling) - but you should still see the "silver" IR eye spmewhere

Echoing Jon's question - are you in Melbourne AU ? I helped out another member on Sunday and I am always looking for a new challenge

And yes, the Overture has an ML (standard it seems) so it is a good solution.

For the iPod you will be using the AUX-in port. It is probably a DIN socket (or two RCAs). If it is DIN you might search for a device some one once built/sold which used the DIN plug and provide tape command (stop, start, skip) to the attached iPod ... without something like that you will be to listen but not control unless you have a long cable from the Overture to your podium sorry armchair.

The advantage of a device like the Playmaker would be playing wirelessly from your iDevices/aDevices to the AUX-in.

If the Overture being sold is without a remote, then you could search for a Beo4 (preferred) on eBay to look for BeoLink 1000s - I use two beo4s and two 1000s at home.

There are about 5 variants of the 1000 series - I have two of those and they all work harmoniously.

PS you do need to find those black boxes that are controlled by the diver eyes and which drive the speakers !

PPS can you see some label information on the bedroom speakers ?

One thing re the playmaker, you can get an Ouverture with a Beo4 remote for less than the cost of a Playmaker. Add an Airport or a dock and you get CD, Radio and ipod for less. And it will be compatible and have Masterlink!

Re: location - I am based just outside Manchester in Cheshire in the UK - if you know any contacts in my area that would be really useful.

It's going to be tricky to get into the loft to get information on the recessed bedroom speakers.

Hi Hodgey,

   All depends on your budget of course but you are nearly there. I'd go for a BeoSound 3000 or even a 3200 as they are now pretty cheap on ebay.

  I am in Halifax but don't really get over to Manchester much. Happy to help via telephone if I can!!!
