Hi.I have a Beosound Century Type 2655 made in 1998. The CD player won't always work. It moves the CD a few degrees then stops. Sometimes it will work but rarely. A symbol like '[ ]' appears on the display. Can anyone please shed some light on what may be the problem and the solution?Regards, Ed

The symbols you say look like "[ ]" are related to the CD player operating in continuous play or random track mode so shouldn't be related to your problem.
Have you tried cleaning the laser as a first step. Many people don't bother and it can lead to all sorts of play problems. If you still have a problem after cleaning the lens, come back to us.

Thank you for the response. I will clean the laser lens carefully. One thing I have noticed is that the CD player takes a few attempts to get started in the morning but once running seems to be fine all day. The same thing happens every day...

I gave the lens what I think is a good clean with the appropriate product. It still displays the same problems as before. I would like to repair if possible as it is very hard finding technicians these days.

electronic problem it is then. I have a Beocenter 9000 CD that does the same. It spins, stops etc for a few times. If I move the lens by hand and try again it often then works for the rest of the day but I suspect a capacitor or diode problem.
A Century is well worth getting fixed. Where are you? If you say, someone may be able to suggest someone who can take a look at it.
If it has the VAU1255 laser, then probably some broken joints at the laser's base (flex) are broken.

If it has the "curved" laser, then the standard capacitors on the decoder board has to be changed.
Thanx. Took it apart and it is a VAU1255 lens. Didn't look like the lens holder joints were damaged or detached. Gave both sides of the lens a clean and removed the two adjustment (lens alignment) screws and replaced them so to be just touching their end points. It is working better now but still wants a few starts to get going sometimes. Is it possible to set the alignment correctly via these screws?
