Hope you can help. I have recently aquired a very nice Beomaster 5000 / remote control and CDX (the latter the subject of a different tech query - if you can help on that see other thread thanks!)
My query on the amp is, can I use the 2 sets of speaker outputs as a bi-wire set up to my speakers (Quad 11s)? Is this a good or bad idea do you think? Has anyone done this and any suggestions.

You can do - whether it will make any difference is debatable. The two outputs come from the same power amplifier with a mute circuit being in the speaker 1 circuit. More interesting if you did it with a Beomaster 6000 quad mind you!

I've found bi-wiring doesn't make any difference, apart from doubling the price of your spaghetti.

The benefit of Be-wiring is that you would benifit something bacuse of only parts of the current going through the "spagetti" ? Please correct me if I am wrong.Talking about cables.....
Of course this is personal to some people.
1995 I co-designed a THX licensed mixing theatre here in Stockholm and did half of the electrical installation. if was a work over a couple of month inclduing some 20000 soldierpointsWhen I was about to pull speaker cable through the walls, I actually took the oportunity to do A-B test with the cable we had bought and ordinary lamp-cable for home electricity.
We had 26 meter high quality speaker cable 4mm2 to each speaker form the machineroom.
I had good quality acoustic audio source material, uncompressed that I have recorded myself being played from Sonys most expensive DAT machines..12000 euros machine something...The rest of the quipment, specific from the list of THX approved proffessional equipmentNot a chance I could hear a differnce, not a chance.Perhaps I have bad hearing ?
I tend not to get involved in cable debates but in essence I agree with you. As long as you don't use ridiculous cable with high capacitance or very odd resistance I don't think it makes any difference. B&O always told me that the cable they supply is as good as anything they have tested and it is bog standard copper speaker wire.
However a lot of people get pleasure from tweaking their systems and if spending huge amounts of money on snake oil turns them on, I am not going to try to stop them.
Well put Peter, I agree,If changing cables gives people joy, I encourage it.Its just that I cant hear any difference.

This is my favorite one. I have been noticing this item off and on for the last few months. Fortunately I don' think anyone has bit on this one. If we had to spend this much on power cables for our audio equipment I think I would go into the cable building business.

That's so stupid it's funny. Even if the power cable from the outlet to the device made a difference, what about the "crap" cables in your walls going to the outlet!? Ridiculous. And funny.
I'll have another sip and meditate over this one. :-)

Yes, i agree totallySome people buy a powercable to their stereos that cost a fortune, that is one meter, but what about the 100 meter of cable inside of the walls, and the kilometers of cables to the power station?
The entire thing is so missdirected.the quality of the cable that brings the current the last one meter to you equipment is such a small issue.
Spending money on an electrician to secure good and smart designed grounding in your home is far more better investment for so many reasons
