I currently have BL1s attached to a BV11-55 and use all the speakers for movies as well as listening to music via appletv or through my BS9000 that is also connected to the BV11.  I am thinking of getting a subwoofer (bl 19 perhaps) but wondering if anyone had feedback on whether adding a sub to the BV11-55 made much of a difference for music or bray.

Hi, there have been a few discussions recently over the value of adding a BL11 or BL19 to your BV. Have a look through the forums.

In your specific case, it's a little more tricky as the BL1s are a very powerful set of speakers (with decent bass), so a sub will make less of a difference, I think. Few people have given much feedback on the BL19, so far, so it might be wiser to ask your dealer if you can borrow a unit for a couple of days, see if it enhances your setup?

I had a pair of BL9s connected to my old BV7 and I didn't feel the need a sub in this setup, as the BL9 could handle the bass. I did have a BL2 at one point, but sold it, as the only thing it appeared to do was rock the floor of the room, whenever there was an explosion in a movie.

I have also Beolab 1 and the bass of these speakers is very weak, although I have set bass level to maximum.

So I will borrow a Beolab 19 because I hope this will fit with BL1 perfect.

A few years ago I tested a BL2, but this subwoofer was very "boomy". Much fun with videos, but terrible for listening music.

Greetings

Thank you both for the feedback. As suggested I will also try to borrow a BL19 and see the impact. I watched Prometheus last night, and at level 60 volume it was fantastic. But alas I cannot stay at this level for either movies or music as I am sure my neighbours would not enjoy it. Hoping the real impact would be with music....agree the bass on the BL1s have always been surprisingly weak.

I have bl1s, and I do believe that they benefit from a sub. I have a bl2, and did quite a bit of listening with and without the sub - was trying to decide whether to pair the sub with mk1 bl8000 or the bl1. It is paired with the bl1s. I'm one of the odd ones who think the bl2 does fine with music. Stan

As do I. I use the bl2 and have no problems with it. With the Avant and movies it is very boomy but is that not the way the movies are recorded ?

Hope to try the new sub later to day.
