Dear,
I'd like to buy a silver membership but i don't have a credit card, since we rarely use it here in the netherlands. Can i pay by paypal to a mod or someone to receive a silver membership?
Thanks,Aymeric
Incredible in this day and age!
Regards Graham
Incredible that i don't have a credit card? Or incredible it isn't supported?
Incredible that Beoworld does not accept paypal!
expoman: Incredible that Beoworld does not accept paypal!
Well, I most certainly would not accept Paypal were it not for the fact that I am forced to accept it as a condition of selling on ebay. They really are robbing gits and I can quite understand why Lee is reluctant to pay them any more than he absolutely needs.
Paypal might be free to Buyers but it costs the seller at least 5% of the selling price including postage while accepting payment with a debit card costs the seller around 25 pence.
I can understand why buyers like Paypal, they have all of the advantages. It would be a different story if the charges were levied the other way round!
It's not the fees - it's the way the whole site is programmed...
To rewrite the code to accept PayPal and activate membership, which links into the main site and a custom written forum, will cost around £1,500.
I get possibly 2-3 requests a year for PayPal payment, so at best it'll take around 16 years to recoup the outlay.
Sorry
So why not accept a banktransfer? As Aymeric says, credit card is not common use in Holland, we prefer to pay cash. I have a (company) credit card but only use this card for business.

Bank transfer will be fine for me :)
Lee, perhaps more people will become a silver/gold member if they can pay easilly. It doesn't have to be automatic, but perhaps you can make a Paypal account for it and just activate those (few) people by hand. or accept bank transfers.
Credit cards charge fees. American Express fees can be more than 5%. I don't think this is about that fee it is about Lee's outrageous programing costs.
My goodness, is it that complicated paying by international bank transfer?
Oh, yes, that's true.
It's complicated, and very expensive, as it has a fixed fee and a variable fee, which can be compared to the annual gold membership. And just for fun, from abroad You need to transfer foreign currency to England (even if You transfer GBP), and You are NOT able to send the correct ammount, as nowadays the EU changed the rules, so You can not accept all costs for a transfer. For this reason, sometimes there is no way to transfer an exact ammount to the recipient.
IMHO there is a very simple way to use Paypal for the Payment - simply add a Paypal address to the registration page as a Paypal payment method, and this way anybody can send money to You. Just for fun: This way the sender covers the fees and not the recipient!
Use Skrill instead of Paypal. It's far better and sender pays the fees.
It's also much safer since you don't constantly have to worry about the risk ofPaypal interfering, rolling dice and playing god with other peoples money.
Skrill was previously known as Moneybookers.Skrill is also accepted by Ebay, though they don't make a big deal out of it for obvious reasons.

Leslie, do you mean IBAN ?
Its a saga for me to use it to transfer money to Europe and takes over a week using it if you do not have the recipient on your list.
It is being replaced by another system in the new year.
Yes "valve1", that's what I mean, IBAN.
The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) system does come into play early next year but is only for payments in Euro's.

Dave.
And it does not have to be literally a credit card, Debit cards work as well, as long as they are cleared for internet payments. Getting one of those should not be a problem in developed countries.

Debit cards in the netherlands are not able to pay like on this site. We can pay online but only through Ideal and Iban things.I called them for this.
Well yes, it needs to be a card that routes the payments through Visa or Mastercard. I thought the national bank cards were gone everywhere already.
If your card (Credit or Debit) card has either a Visa and MasterCard symbol on it, then the Beoworld system will accept it no matter what currency or country the card was issued in.
