I have a  28" VCR Avant and want to use its inbuilt speakers together with connected BL4000's  to play my iMac through. I have an airport express connected through the SCART input on the back of the Avant but it does not seem to play. The irony is is that if I use the up close connections on the top of the Avant then it does work. The cords look unsightly and I want to connect through the SCART.

Do I have to change any inputs or anything as there seems to be something wrong. When it is connected though the  top right hand corner connections the Avant seems to find the input automatically and the music plays from  the Airport Express but not so with the SCART connection.

I also have a BS9000 connected to the AVant as the Master. Maybe I could use the aux input on it instead of the Avant.

Can anyone be of any assistance.

Patrick

Hi,

Have you set up the appropriate SCART socket in the TV connections menu? You need to set it to whatever source button you wish to use on the remote to select it. I would suggest DVD.

If you have already done this and it doesn't work, I would check that your SCART lead is definately an input and not an output. Some of them has a switch on the SCART plug so you can decide which way the signal is flowing.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

If you followed the instructions of Guy, you can let the screen be muted through choosing 'AV' before choosing the source ('AV' - 'DVD').

'AV' you can find in the 'List' or as hardbutton on older Beo4's.

If you want the sound as pure stereo - chooce 'Speaker 2' manually.

N.B. It would be much easier to manage if the APE is connected to the A.AUX port of the audiosystem.

Just chooce 'A.AUX' from 'List' of the Beo4 - that is all.

On newer Beo4's you can even move the 'A.AUX' command, and let it appears as one of the first entries in the 'List'.

Nice if you use that function often.

I partly folioed your instructions but my Avant which is 28" does not have a connections menu. I found that I went to TV and chose the input of decoder and it seems to be working. It is odd having to choose TV on the Beo4 however.

Should I be able to get it working using any other button other than TV on the Beo4?

Anyway at least it is working.

Are you sure?  I do not have an Avant but there must be a way to select the other SCART inputs.  Is the CONNECTIONS menu not accesed from the SETUP menu, or is that only in newer Avants?

Yes I am beginning to think you are right and this maybe the easiest solution. I have the BS9000 on a vertical stand and cannot see what kind of terminal the Aux In has. Does anyone know offhand?

The earier Avants don't have a connections menu, rather only Source which is much more limiting. I have set it on Decoder 2 but this has been unsuccessful.

5-pin DIN.

You find it beside the two PL's.

So can I buy a cable: DIN plug to mini headphone socket to go from Aux  on BS900 to Airport Express? How do I know that the right pins are connected?

I am not aware of any 'wrong' pin constellation by a audio/stereo 5-pin DIN to minijack cable!

Never had problems there.

You have never heard of the in / out confusion? Confused I can't count the number of threads we've had about that...

Which is why I always buy DIN adapters with all four RCA connectors and then use a separate 2xRCA to minijack cable.
