Hi to all,

I am quite new to this forum but I own some B&O stuff for several years. :-)

With this thread I want to share a nice thing that I found out with my BeoSound 5.

I always wanted to have a direct AirPlay feature in this great pice of technic but it seams that B&O ist not able to include this. Maybe a restriction from Apple? I don't know...

The only solution they gave to customer like us is an USB Aux adapter where you can plug in an AirPort Express. Since the sound quality of those two extra devices isn't really not the best one I did some search in the WWW and found following.

There is an open source "AirPlay receiver software" which can be installed on any windows based PC. So I gave it a try and installed it on the BeoMaster 5. (which is actually a windows based machine and all system sounds will be forwarded to PL/ML connection.)

This solution works very good. Very stable with no drop outs and a better sound quality then the B&O solution. :-)

If you want to try it on your own, google for "shairport4w.exe" and download it to a USB stick.

On BeoSound 5 open Servicemenu (Windows Desktop), plug in the stick and install the program.
Now navigate to the firewall settings and add an exception for this program since it needs to communicate with airplay transmitters within your LAN.

Now, open shairport, type in a name that will be visible in your AirPlay list. Don't forget to activate the autostart function.

Close the servicemenu, activate A.Aux and start to send AirPlay from your iDevice to BeoMaster.

I think this solution will also work for BeoMedia 1 since it similar to BM5.

Please keep in mind that you do everything ON YOUR OWN RISK. I will NOT be responsible for any bricked B&O devices or destroyed music collections   :-)

Best greetings.

@BeoMotion if what you say is true, you may have just become a BeoSound 5 hero on the forum. Can't wait to try it in the AM.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Thanks for the praise...
I am using it for several weeks without any problems so far.

There is no really installation progress. Just copy paste it to your BeoMaster's Desktop and start it. Let me know if you have trouble with installing it.
The part with the firewall setting is a bit tricky but really necessary. Otherwise the program will not be visible within your LAN / AirPlay list.

Remember to stop AirPlay stream from your iDevice if you change from A.Aux to a different audio source of BM5. Otherwise it will play in background together with the other source.

@Peter
Unfortunately Spotify did not release any API for the "Connect" function, yet.
Hopefully there will be something coming in future.

Thanks for the BM5-airplay info!

For Spotify there is a norwegian app called "Remoteless". It`s for remote control Spotify on your computer via ipad.

You have to install a "Helper" on your computer. Maybe this will work on a BM5 too...??

@stefan

yes, there are several "remote" apps for spotify available.

Some time ago I used the "Spotimote" App from Android store. You have to install the complete Spotify Desktop program and a special server software.

Works with BeoMaster 5 but in my opinion the original App from Spotify in combination with AirPlay is much cooler.
Hopefully they will release a special API for the "connect" function or add it at least to libspotify.

BeoMotion:

Close the servicemenu, activate A.Aux and start to send AirPlay from your iDevice to BeoMaster.

I think this solution will also work for BeoMedia 1 since it similar to BM5.

Some options are only possible with a complete BM5 BS5 setup.

A.Aux will only be available with the BS5. Same for the Spotify feature.

The Beo-navigatorsoftware divers from the Beomedia1. So the above will only work when Beosound.exe is working after detecting the BS5

Hi Beobuddy,

Yes, you are right but of course there are some unmentioned tricks I found out. :-)

If you own BeoMedia 1 or BeoMaster-5-only, you can use shairport, too. Just install it the way mentioned above.
Now, if you want to listen to AirPlay, simply use the N.Music function and press STOP. Now only the AirPlay source will be playing.
You could also delete all stored music. Then simply press N.Music and start AirPlay.

Maybe after 30 Minutes system will shut down because no "BeoSource" is playing. If someone is experiencing this problem you could take a closer look at the registry. Maybe there is a value for setting another timer?
I never had this problem...

If you are an Android and Spotify user you can think about of installing the Spotify desktop application. Then search the App Store for "spotify remote" or "spotimote" and follow their instroductions. In most cases you have to install a special server software for the spotify application.
I can recommend "Spotimote". It is running on the embedded xp systems.
Feels a bit similar to Spotify Connect but you have to use a third party Spotify App on your smartphone.

Thanks for the information about the Airplay. As you've mentioned, it eliminates same components and its "distortion".

I've tried already some tweaking on my BM5 in the past. Changed some registersettings to get the Beo6 working.

That worked for some time, but the system became instable.

Unfortunately the stability in communication between BM5 / Beo6 is even in original state not the best one.

To make the picture complete, you do not necessarily need the usb-flash. You can also put the setup file to any the BM-SHARE folder via BeoConnect and then browse it from Service Menu. Also, in the recent release the firewall rule may be set during the setup.

I've had trouble getting Shairport4w running on me Beomaster 5 - downloading from 32-bit version from Sourceforge gives me an error that the executable is not a 32-bit application. Not sure anyone else had the problem. The developer's repository is: https://github.com/Frank-Friemel/Shairport4w/releases

I've found a version that works well though at: https://www.chip.de/downloads/Shairport4w_49182437.html
