I've read Geoff Martin's recent postings on optimal setup of a 5.1 surround setup; 30 degrees off axis for the main L & R channels. Q: at the same seated position:

1. Should the BL 5s be located here for best two channel music?

2. Should they be facing straight ahead, or toed-in slightly.

The sweet spot is 2.7m from the center speaker of my BV9.

Thanks

My own suggestion (although not what I do, for a variety of reasons) is that you place the BL5s as you describe, 30° off the median plane on each side, which has become the de facto stereo topology.

I also suggest that you toe them in 30° as well, so that each lens is facing directly at you, the listener.  After you've gotten this established and are familiar with how it sounds, you may wish to experiment with less toe-in (which may, depending on your room, yield greater envelopment).

2.7 meters should be maintained for all speakers in the array, unless you can correct for the time differences.

Good luck, and ENJOY!

Best regards,
