From what ive noticed nobody really likes the black beosound 8. If you see most cover grilles they are more pastel colored which are obviously aimed at the white b8. Well here in athens i noticed today that the beosound 8 has had the original price of 1100 euros slashed to 550 euros which sounds like a bargain to me and i may be getting it this week. However it has no airplay and is black only...the only white version i found is the unit they had on display...also i think the value on the beosound 8 has risen. Its become much more expensive on ebay and the beoplay 8 is too expensive imo. So its either the beosound 8 , or a playmaker and new ipad hooked to my beolab 4000s which i have never used.
Personally, I would go for the PlayMaker with the 4000's. Better sound overall and more flexibility. And your not getting something that's limited to only 30pin connections.
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
The beosound 8 / A8 is a confusing product . I reckon the supply increased when Applestores returned the obsolete models or something .
Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1
My BS8 is currently all-black. I also have white, yellow, orange, red and green covers.
My BS8 has definitely improved, or mellowed, as an audio device over the last couple of years. Yes, it's very 'mid-range' in audio quality (by 'mid-range' I mean not very bassy nor a lot of treble), but for the size, I have no complaints.

Every Apple store I've ever been in (US and UK) either hasn't stocked the A8 or if they have, it's been on the bottom shelf at the back of the store.
Apple couldn't care less about B&O.

Or any other 3rd party, for that matter.
Simply because B&O has not been really marketing for the target group. Will Apple purchasers buy B&O? Certainly but not this way. And high design like high fashion only really appeal to a certain demographic. Sometimes celebrities and artists are so over catered in terms of media that we assume that they are the people at large.

Any is an exaggeration. The popular MrPorter.com website stocks, promotes and features the a BeoPlay kit and has done for many months.
A product can be stocked by Apple but not displayed in a retail store. I wouldn't expect to see an A9, it takes up too much retail real estate to be viable.

No, not an exaggeration. They look at 3rd party suppliers just like other mass-market retailers do. Apple the company cares nothing about another company other than how it impacts their own interests. To your point, floor space is a valuable commodity. Web space, not so much.
Not a slam on Apple or anyone else, as I have selfish interest in their success, but that's my reality of how it works in American retailing. Maybe different on your side, but my guess that would be more a function of passive aggression than active.

Let's face it here, no-one walks in to an Apple store looking for a £1000 dock for their iPhone. BeoPlay products are simply too expensive for bricks-and-mortar retailer. The number of sales are minimal, so they don't justify their presence. An A9 will take up a lot of space in any retailer.
Even my local B&O store has reduced their floorspace for BeoPlay products. The A9 used to be fairly prominently displayed, but I noticed it's now just in the window area. £1000 for a dock is beyond most people's everyday budget. It's also the only dock that's gone up in price. I'm sure I bought my BS8 for about £750.
The Apple stores here have Beolit 12s and B&W Zeppelins amongst other non Apple devices. These are all in the back corners near the technical desks. In fact, you cannot see these until you are pretty much at the back of the store as the shelves face inwards.

LOL Symmes!
When it comes to B&O and Apple, another relevant scene is "Face it! You F'ed up, you trusted us!" after the Lightning connector debacle...
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

There you go, Jeff. Topped me again.

I doubt it's because they can't afford it...I know quite a few iPhone owners who spend more on their i-devices. First they buy an expensive phone (and they must offcourse have the iPad too) - then they drop the phone... then new expensive display...Then next year they must have the new model...
At least you can have the docking station for years ;-)

Yes, but they blow the budget on replacing their phone, which is why they can't spend £1000 on the dock, so the reasoning stands (they have no spare cash).
You can have the phone for years if you follow your logic!
So is 550 euros a good deal for the beosound 8 even though it wont have airplay??
Sorry for the double post. I just read on one of the forums that the dock on the older beosound 8 cannot be removed...is this true?? I hope not because my ipad has the thunderbolt port. I have seen the removable dock however on rbay with the new thunderbolt port so what am i missing??
