B&Os future linked to music delivery architecture?

Starting a discussion.

What do we think B&O should do when it comes to music delivery?

My dream would be a centralized system where I could send multiple and different streams to multiple and different speakers. It would ideally be controlled both from an app (with cover art please) AND/OR a nice central dedicated hardware unit with larger screen.  If I had beo-remotes lying around I would have similar but more limited functionality to turn on/off, switch source, skip to next playlist or next genre, etc... The source would be able to play from a central hard drive lossless in FLAC and Apple uncompressed (which I am pretty sure is now open source). Ability to play spotify AND shoot a stream to it via airplay important.

if this sounds very much like Sonos you are correct (and I know I can do this by plugging Sonos units into beolab speakers but then I believe the result is those speakers can't be used with a beovision tv in the same room)

So here is the question/discussion. Does anyone think B&O is heading this way? The new speakers seem to require being "paired" with one source (be it a bv11 or system4 etc..). There is no central hub and I don't see the new hardware creating any type of mesh network.

I guess the above vision would require a new playmaker like box that could be set to represent a zone.  If you wanted to add a zone you buy a set of wireless speakers. Plug them into the new playmaker and voila!

If they can pull this off (or even cut a deal WITH Sonos!) I think they would sell tons of speakers. I know many many families who started with a Sonos or two and have just kept adding zones as the kids grow and the speakers get smaller / nicer.

looking forward to hearing opinions. We are in the early stages of a complete gut renovation of a house and the audio system we ultimately decide upon will be related to what happens. Feels like the home electronic world is also half way through a gut renovation of their business model.

I think that's the plan!

In fact you can do this already with the Beosound 5 Encore, Beovision 11, Beovision 12, V1 and a DLNA server (Which can be the Beomaster 5, or another compatible DLNA server).

Is the Beo6 two-way function compatible with Encore?

Too long to list....

I do not think it is.

I mainly wanted to point out that it is the direction where B&O is going. For now some "bricks" are still missing, but I think, as soon as the new Beosound is released we'll see a bit clearer.

With TVs, you can browse on the screen so you do not need a 2 way remote.

Yeah, but I don't like the idea of having to have the TV turned on just to listen to music. Sad

I'd love to get a B&O sound system, and not use my Mac mini + the audio card to feed my BL5's, but right now I see it as my only option.

Hopefully there will be an updated one soon with all our "hopes" come true!

Why not simply get a NL converter and a BS5/BM5? You then could use the BL5's in Surround and in the stereo manner you want. Or simply hit P.Mute on the BV.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

That will require serious computer power and serious capital.

I'll think that the BS5/BM5 will do something like that when it gets support for immaculate wireless sound.
Or at least it could have and that would be awesome...
