Conncecting Apple TV (gen. 3) to Beovision 7-40 MKII without hdcp problems?

Hello folks.

I want to hear if anybody has experiences with connecting an Apple TV (gen 3) to a Beovision 7-40 MK II.

The tv doesn't have an HDMI-socket, so I will try to use the DVI-I socket.

Does anyone know if this will work with HDCP and "handshake"? I don't want to end up with a black screen or error messages on the apple tv?

 

I'm planning to do the following setup:

Picture: Apple TV HDMI -> Beovision DVI-I (HDMI Cable + HDMI->DVI adaptor)

Sound: Apple TV Optical Out -> active converter box -> Beovision digital audio in (Optical Audio Cable + box + digital coaxial audio cable)

 

I have read the other posts on the forum about this topic, but I'm still not sure if my setup will work.

Please share your experiences with connection Apple tv gen. 3 to a B&O TV without hdmi or share similar setups and posts.

How to connect an Apple TV
 
Requirements for connecting an Apple TV to BeoCenter 6 and BeoVision 6/7 (Bn-chassis):
     
  ·
The television is at least HD-ready
     
  o
BeoVision 6 HD-ready kit: 1437100
  o
BeoVision 7 HD-ready kit: 1437000
     
  ·
DSM-module needed for digital sound: 1400501 - kit for BeoVision 6/BeoCenter 6
     
  ·
Video connection:
     
  o
Use a HDMI to DVI cable, on the old Apple TV version optionally use a YPbPr-cable 
     
  ·
Control:
     
  o
Use IR-cable and in menu select PUC/STB-C source to be “Apple Remote”, and set “AUTO STAND_BY” options to “Manual Control”. The television cannot control switching the Apple TV on/off as the HDMI-signal is always on
     
  ·
Sound connection:
     
  o
Old Apple TV version: select analogue or/and digital sound
Analogue sound: 
     
  ·
Connect a "Stereo Mini Jack – Phono”-cable
Digital sound: 
     
  ·
Connect “Optical to Coax-S/P-Dif-converter”, “Apple-Toslink converter”, Toslink and Phono cables.
     
  ·
DSM software must be 3.01* (8344439),
  ·
AP SW must be 7.84 (8344584 - BV7)/10.02 (Flash - BC6) or higher (incl. 30.xx -8344946),

PCM must be set to ON in Customer Service Menu

*For BeoVision 6-26 a special DSM software must be requested from Technical Support (DSM software2.72 – Att: HBY/RSS), and AP SW must be 8.55c or higher (8344685).
 
Note: Only analogue sound can be distributed to link rooms.

Good evening,

I am reading this conversation with a lot of interest. Can you make it more specific for me concerning this situation:

Beovision 7-32 (9331) with one DVI-I and this is occupied by the HD-recorder by HDMI and a connector HDMI-DVI. For sound I use the scart connection.

How can I add an Apple TV to this situation ?

I have a 32" MKIII  mated to the latest generation Apple TV and am suitably impressed with picture and sound quality.

How do I know if my beovision has been upgraded to HD-ready?

 

You say that only analoge sound can be distributed to link rooms, does this mean that my sound (connected via digital coaxial) will not be playing in link rooms, or that it will be converted to analog and then played?

As I understand it a beovision 7 doesn't need to have pcm software update?

Thanks for posting your thread (for some reason I didn't find it in the forum before).

It was very informative and it looks like exactly the setup I have in mind.

Only I thought about doing a optical -> digital coaxial sound conversion instead of converting to analog sound, but shouldn't be too much of a problem I hope not.

Hello simontrabjerg,

if you want distribute sound to link rooms, the best way is to connect ATV digital AND analogue to your BV 7.

I was wondering if you could help me as you seem to have a clear understanding of this issue. I have a similar issue.

 

I have a BV7 32" Mk3. 

 

I just got a Apple TV (Gen3) which is connected to the DVI input on the TV from the HDMI of the Apple TV. The audio is running from the Apple TV into the coaxial input of a digital audio converter. From there the L/R jacks from the output of the converter are running into the L/R input on the AV4 of the TV.

 

The issue is I have no sound. I've been reading about certain software and the need to switch on the "PCM" on the audio setting. Sadly my model doesn't have a "PCM" setting and the DSM SW is 2.7.

 

So, I'm wondering if there is a way around this, either with the Apple TV or using another STB instead. I'm not bothered whether I use Apple or not, I just want to get the TV working.

Any solutions would be most welcome
