Hi there,

I have replaced all six electrolytics on the top-side of a CDM12 board (that's four 47uF, one 330uF, one 100uF). None of the mustard-coloured tantalum caps look suspect and ESR measurements are OK.

I've also read every thread I can find here.

There's a paper label on the K-side of the board (upper side):

3104 148 20181

CDM12 B-O and another number 000203

On pressing a track number (like 2 or 3, etc) the lens will bounce up and down a few times, and there's a bright red dot on the middle of the eye while this takes place.

Beyond that, the motor does not spin or even flinch, though I have proven it works well and pulls strongly with only a few volts from an external power supply (did this with servo board disconnected). If moving the laser assembly to the outer edge of the disc, the tracking sled motor will drive all the way towards the spindle so I reckon there's enough juice getting to the board.

Connecting a meter by soldering wires onto the motor, there's about 0.22 v and occasionally a flicker to about 0.35v.

Should the spindle motor turn even if the laser is faulty or has not focussed?

Not had a lot of luck with B&O CD's lately - spares source for boards or help appreciated.

Donald.

Thanks for that thought.

I have ordered one on e-bay and it is en-route, shall let you know progress.

Hello again,

Just thought it worth replying on the Beocenter repair - I have received a new laser and it is now working very well again thank-you.

The replacement I found on e-bay is also used in a Marantz and came complete with plastic chassis, spindle & sled motors. These of course were not used in the B&O repair and join my odds & sods pile. The link:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PHILIPS-LASER-LENS-OPTICAL-PICK-UP-CDM12-4-VAM1204-FREE-SHIPPING-/251080253844?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:GB:3160

It was helpful that the vendor included a picture of the rear showing the TDA1302T IC. Description was given as CDM12.4 / VAM1204

Now I need to return to the headache on the bench - a CENTURY with no sled/spindle motor activity whatsoever despite new laser. Also no focus effort on the lens.

Thanks for now.

Hello.  I have a 9300 with same problem it seems.  A question though.  When replacing the laser, does any other sort of adjustment need to be made that requires specialized equipment?  There are still lasers available from the seller you mentioned, so I will go that route if necessary.

Many thanks.
