Hello everybody,
my newly acquired Beocenter 9500 doesnot seem to send two way information. Whenever I try using the Beolink 7000, it says "No Contact" on the display. It's not the Beolink 7000, however, since I got other two-way devices and it's working perfectly with them. I should mention that the Beocenter 9500 is NOS and therefore hasn't been used in twenty years. It receives commands and everything else works perfectly. But it doesn't seem to send anything. What could be the cause? Thanks!

As I remember there is a set-up procedure to be done with the BL7000. I think you have to remove all sources and then add them again. I had to to that to make it work with my BC9500.

I've tried it already, but to no avail. Still no two-way functionality.
Then try to make a photo with your camera or phone when the BC are supposed to send. That will be directly after it has received a command.
If no response is shown then probably you have to to look for some problems in the IR sending unit. Probably not the IR diodes, since there are four of them (as you can see) its unlikely that they are all broken.
I was also considering a defect to be rather unlikely, since no two-way device in my posession ever failed sending signals. I'll check later and report back.
Another thought that came to my mind: since the unit is new, is there a cap that needs to be reomoved or any adjustments that need to be made or should it just work right away?

To my knowledge it should work right away.
It's not working unfortunately - no matter what I do. Any ideas what the reason might be?
In advance I wish to confirm, that I don't know nothing about this configuration.
However the problem is so strange, maybe an uncommon idea can help You, if it fits this case. As I remember well, there were several problems with the remotes if the "Option" setting was wrong, or incorrect. I think if it fits to BC9500, maybe You can check the "Option" setting to a correct value for a two way communication.
As I mentioned earlier, I don't know if this "option" even exists in this system, so I have no idea how to set it - even if it's available for this system.
Thanks very much. I will try that once more later on. I have no idea which option the Beocenter was configured to. So I configured it to 2. It's a stand alone audio device not linked to a TV.
It's quite unusual that the Beocenter is not sending anything. Haven't read anything about such an issue on here. However, it's well receiving all signals from the Beolink 7000 and in full working order. Only problem is that it's not sending. But as I've said, it's new old stock, so hasn't been used for at least 20 years. This might cause the capacitors to go empty, doesn't it?
Any further ideas?
I've now figured out that the Beocenter sends something but only when I place the Beolink 7000 right in front of it does the remote receive the signals. Same thing happens when I use different two-way remotes and normally they receive signals even when placed a couple of meters away from the Beomaster. Bad capacitors?
How was the BC 9500 stored? Any possibility of dust inside? Maybe the IR diodes and window needs cleaning (inside & outside).
My best guess is bad caps in BL7000.
No, it's the Beocenter. Definitely not the remote. I have a couple and no matter which one I use, the result is the same. The Beocenter was stored in the original box for the last couple of years. Hardly any dust on it. How can I access the IR diodes? Can the cover be removed easily?
Then I would suggest tho replace the electrolytic capacitors C11, C12 and C14 on IR-pcb (69).
Another question: I have placed the Bocenter directly beneath the pitched roof area. Can this have an effect on the IR transmission?
No, I don't think so. As long as the transmitter on the BC is not hidden or out of sight it should work.

And have you actually tried the phone cam trick already? If the transmitter signal seems weak (compare to some other device to get some idea how it should look), it might be a fault in the BC. If it transmits strongly, it's probably something else. The transmitter leds are in the bulge below the radio, cd and tape control buttons.

However, I'm pretty sure that the Beocenter 9500 is not sending correctly. Hope that this is not an expensive fix. I once had a Beolink 7000 that wasn't sending correctly. Very expensive to fix...
Kai, I have the same issue with one of my BC9500's. I took out the IR board and later on I will try to swap with another (working) one. Just to check where the fault is. Or maybe some caps that has to be replaced on this IR board. I did that with a few BL7000's which had the "no contact" issue and repair just cost me a few pennies.

Of curiosity I tried what I had available and made a test.

If it only has an optical viewfinder, then obviously not - unless you manage to release the shutter at the exact moment the LEDs are on.
The CCDs are usually all IR sensitive, but depending on the type of the colour filter on top of it and other processing, the camera might have an IR filter as well to keep infrared light away from the sensor. In that case, it won't see the LEDs.
But maybe a friend or family member have one.
@ Leslie: please let me know as soon as you know what the reason was. At least somenody has experienced a similar issue. My repairshop also told me that they haven't ever encountered that problem on a Beocenter 9500. But then again, a NOS 9500 is probably not that common nowadays and unused capacitors seem to age much faster than used ones.

Could the issue possibly have to do something with the glass panels being reglued?
