I was wondering how the new speakers are selling in the shops. Anyone know?
Usually when a new innovative product like these is announced the stock price goes up dramatically. The B&O stock has been on a three month decline since September when they were announced. it was up to 57 it is now down to 44.
Last January it was at 70. That's a 33% decline. Seems the lower it goes the more likely some one would make a play to acquire the company.
I remember reading the Danish Union shop steward made a comment that Tue had one more year to deliver on his plan or he was out. I know they were opening shops like crazy in China. Wonder how that is going?
The Apple stores don't seem to be that great for B&O. When I go in I never see any B&O. Maybe they sell mostly thru Apple's online store?
They have started selling BeoPlay products in the US at Best Buy and a furniture store called Design within Reach. Not sure how that is working out.
It's hard to increase sales when still most people don't know your name.
I think it´s to early to say how the new speakers are selling. The dealers just got them even if they where announced some time ago. It´s like asking Porsche how their new 991 Turbo is selling. The Porsche dealers just got them into their showrooms.
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
BeoNut since '75
BeoMegaMan:Selling great in our neck of the woods!
And where would those "woods" be?
NE USA.
Sigh... Not surprised regarding the decline of stock prices. The new speakers are not high style at all. In fact I can go so far as to say that I think there's some permanent damage done to the brand image by them.
I actually had to force by myself to like them because I wanted them so bad to work for me but now why do I even bother.
BeoMegaMan:Selling great in our neck of the woods! Sold out till January which is the fastest I can get a delivery from DK.
That applies to everything from B&O, BeoMegaMan, wherever you are located - the TVs, the speakers and even the A9. B&O are simply producing smaller numbers and I'm assuming the factory isn't producing anything from this weekend until first week of Jan. For example, I was told that the new black A9 was - worldwide - produced in quantities of only 20. It's now sold out (not a surprise if you only produce 20!). You can't get one until mid-Jan now, despite only being released last week!
Interesting you should bring this up. I was underwhelmed by the 4000 replacements - sure, they sound nice, but without the options of colours and the odd "cracked ice" effect - they were almost a bit ho-hum.
Yet to see the rest, but it was sad for me personally, to see that they have "reinvented" an old design. I understand the 8000's were iconic - but it would be nice to see real originality again - aka - BL5 sort of thing. I hope we don't see another 6000 series take off!
As so far as the stores - they really, really do need to get back to their knitting. Here in Sydney, I'm treated with scorn - no one remembers my name and I certainly don't get invites or phone calls etc. like days of old. No Christmas card this year either - oh dear. Then I think to myself - hmmm I thought part of the expense I was paying for B&O was for the service....
Maybe, I'm wrong!

I'm not sure why you think they are producing less. Especially, with the advent of the new distribution channels they have taken on. This is especially true with the A9. The black was just announced to go into production, the 20 launched (which were just for dealer samples really) was more of teaser to build interest of what is slated for next years release. I would look to the other side of things, the products that are sold out are not due to limited numbers, more of they were announced and well received and now we have to catch up to the demand they have created. To follow back to the topic of the wireless sales, we took stock of multiple boxes of each product, and again demand ate up what we were allowed for the initial launch of the product. You are right about the factory shut down though next week :)

I agree with everything you've said. The brand needs fireworks!
I can't complain about my dealer, they've been great this year. Sent me the beomagazine, and I'm sure there's a christmas card on it's way.
Too long to list....
B&O does not seem to get that they need a new aesthetic altogether from the 90s. I am not talking about style but the whole aesthetic. What's luxury then isn't luxury now anymore. And B&O's real selling point is luxury lifestyle products. But none of the products now scream luxury or look at me I am bold and alternative.
B&O used to be really poralizing but now it's just mainstream.
Glad to hear that these beautiful new speakers are selling well. What you say is in keeping with what I have heard from my dealer.

I think B&O could become wildly successful by doing whatever the opposite of what you recommend is.
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

lol... Which is?

I am on the opposite point of view. I found that their 90's design would be pleasing to most. I find their recent designs more polarising. Judging by the reaction on this forum, you can see that even fans like us don't all like the new speakers.
Beoworld app with direct photo upload and emoticons.
The 90s B&O designs were very avant-garde back in the 90s. B&O should redefine the avant-garde for now. And what's luxurious for now too.

To be honest, 90ies design is now dated looking and copied endlessly by everyone. It's (more than) time to move on.A unified design look all through the products is not something clients are looking for anymore. Music has been decentralized.
Present day pieces are all very different looking and each will make a different statement in your room in its own right, while at the same time performing as we expect from a B&O product.
I honestly find the newer designs more of breath of fresh air than anything launched in the last 10 or so years.
Whether you like their design or not, at least we talk about them and we all admit that they're an improvement (sound wise) to the older speakers.I can say that seeing them for real and experiencing them is definitely the thing to do with these in order to get the total 'picture'.

The avant garde is no longer in the design as such, but the materials used.Mastering aluminium finishes is no longer an art... it's done everywhere in the world now. The use of the leather strap on the beolit 12, the wood legs on the A9 and the new beolab18 are already examples of B&O reacting to create something better than their old designs.
Yeah why not Stainless Steel? That's what you see in the uber high-end loudspeakers. Stainless steel has a warmer tone to it too.
A9 in Full stainless steel with carbon fiber legs. That will be a talking point. Oh don't forget about my grill and clock idea!
With commodities prices so low. I suggest buying stainless steel in bulk.
Designs must be relevant to the times. Design is not exactly an art form. The wood and metal thing? It's very 90s plus they kinda look mainstream. I shall not reveal anymore of what is to be expected design wise.
Sorry double post.
This is among the best looking speakers in the world IMHO! I wish they where actives...
wonderfulelectric:Yeah why not Stainless Steel?
B&O made stainless steal speakers from the mid 80:s. Beolab 3000, 4500, 5000 & Penta. Very good design, front line 25 years ago, but not really anything remarkable to launch today.
//Bo.A long list...

But the SS parts where only decoration, there was "moulded plastic" underneath. So the SS materials did very little if anything to infect the sound.

Yes, I meant just to clear things up, since WE said SS has a warm tone to it...
I ordered 6 pairs of BeoLab 18 s to arrive before Christmas and down to last pair - a great seller, likewise the BeoLab 19. The BeoLab17 not quite as popular - ordered less, but sold out!
I'm sure that the BeoLab 18s will be a true icon and a worthy replacement for the 8000/8002...
Please note there are many grades of stainless steel and the same goes with aluminum. B&O is clearly lagging behind Apple in terms of mastering aluminum already. I say abandon ship!
Anyway terms like Medical grade Stainless steel will be good sell.
Oh guess what? Apple filed a patent back in 2010 for scratch resistant stainless steel.
Stainless steel is so much more expensive and way heavier. I suppose a stainless steel A9 will need to be prices close to $15000 - $20000. But it will be an objet just like what B&O used to make! Might even sell better though.
I don't think B&o is lagging behind apple in mastering aluminium,It's a strong essence of their identity, also they manufacture aluminium for major brands, apple surely does not. Please get your facts correct before posting nonsense.
Sign of the times.....
I guess there will be a very long wait for the latest wireless speakers to be available here.

Huh..???
- try and tell that to Apple. It seems to be working for them... ;-)

I was in the Melbourne shop on Collins street two weeks ago and went in to look at the new speakers, I explained I lived in spain and just wanted to look at the new speakers . the lady was very good said no problem would you like to hear them, and played the 17s and 18s for my benefit.

This isn't a thread for your Melbourne love-in. Take it private :)
Seriously, I had another demo of the BL18s this lunchtime and they were even better than last time I heard them, using the same music. I'm also becoming more convinced you don't need the BL19. The BL18s are like the BL3+BL11 combo, on steroids.
Impressed. Seriously considering getting them and a Transmitter 1.
We did note that streaming Spotify tracks via the iPad was far inferior to the same track via the Spotify app on the BV11. The track on the BV11 sounded far brighter and had much more depth to the track.
