Hi All (again),

More questions, well one more for the moment Wink and this one is to do with speakers. As some may know or have deduced, I've bought a Beomaster 5000 (with MCP), a Beogram 5000 and soon to pick up a Beogram CD 5500, what I need now are some speakers.

The purist in me thinks B&O and am currently watching these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131071323505?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 so first question is, will these be a good match and are they any good? If not these, what should I look for?

And if I don't go for B&O speakers (shock horror) what would be a good match, wouldn't want to spend too much more than say £150.

I know that was more then one question :-)

I'd go for Beovox S45-2s for that amount of money. However, a pair of C75s isn't too bad either. Rgds, Kai

Hi Kai,

Just read the Beoworld description of those S45-2s, they sound good ;-) I'll see what I can find.

Ta,

Tony

I have tried the following over the decades since I got mine:

1/ tested S45s in store -- good

2/ bought S55s -- a bit bassey -- S45s were purer

3/ currently using CX100s -- don't punch enough weight

4/ had loan RL60s while a friend was overseas -- the best !!

Watch out for speaker rot !

Hi there, thanks for the pointer..

Currently looking out for some RL60s :-)

Would Bose lifestyle cube speakers be a good match? I ask as lookwise they are in keeping with what we're trying to achieve for our flat.

Cheers,

Tony

Be sure to look for the RL 60.2 (type 6513). The don't have the ABR (slave bass) which seems to be a mandatory problem (foam rot).

Amazingly well sounding!

I may be wrong - but I thought the Bose jewel/cube speakers needed the Bose amp+mass woofer which off loads the low end sounds from the little speakers which are effectively tweeters. (i.e. like the BeoLab 14 solution)

The CXs by contrast have tweeter and midrange.

But I could be wrong so please double check with someone.

I have used C-75, CX-100, CX-50 and S-45 speakers with my BS5000 with great results. I too, prefer the S-45 and S-45.2 three-way speakers with my system. They are very well-rounded speakers. I have the C-75 speakers in my bathroom using the MCL-82 box because they can handle the humidity, and they have great bass when located in the corners of the alcove. I actually prefer the C-75 to the CX-100 speakers - I think they have deeper bass. Just my two cents.

if you can find a nice pair of Bose Freespace 203 for under £200 you would have a good sounding amp speaker combo, I have a pair in poor condition cosmetically but they sound fabulous with my BM5000 in my office

otherwise, the C75 or CX100 sound great SQ wise and still look the part, especially in black and good refurbished one's are between £100 and£200 now

NB and I don't agree about the Beovox S55's being bass heavy, in the right positions (not tucked away tight into corners) the S55's sound as good if not better than the over hyped 45.2's
