What do we think?

http://www.opus.org

Well, I do not like it. The iPhone unit really looks ugly. Why would you want to use your iPhone in that place?Airplay is a lot easier!

And have a look at the contact page! This looks so cool! http://opus.org/contact.html

The idea isn't bad.

But it seems like the page hasn't been updated for some time. Still mentions the 30-pin connector.

Too long to list....

what is sad is the Ouverture (probably the owner did not realise) has an Aux input perfectly suited for an Apple Airport Express, and then anyone (including visitors to the house who have iPhones) can simply use Airplay to stream to the Ouverture over wifi

also, even more annoying is when you put a commercial tape that was produced with HX Pro, these tapes sound terrific (if the tape is in good condition to begin with) , I urge anyone who has a later Beocord with HX to buy some HX Pro tapes from ebay or charity shop, garage sale, car boot sale, I have bought about 120 over the years and used them mainly in my car in the nineties, but now I often pop one on my Beocord 5000 or 5500, such a shame that people today have never heard how good tape can be !

my Dad recorded a lot of his records (using a Beosystem 5500 ) to tape using Dolby C and HX Pro

http://www.beoworld.org/article_view.asp?id=145

he now only uses Sony Metal XR-60 tape (made in France) , and his recordings are pretty damm good on any Beocord including the Ouverture, funnily enough every Xmas he brings a few more round to listen to on my system, we have in the past played vinyl, CD and tape of the same album, and whilst sometimes it is easy to spot which media is being used, on other albums the SQ is indistinguishable, especially on eighties music !

Hi London, interesting post, I am a big fan of cassettes, what do you mean by HX pro recorded tapes, I looked on ebay and only found one, how do you distinguish how they were recorded, cheers

a lot of tapes in the late eighties (and early nineties) were recorded using HX Pro, sadly the vast majority of these were from American record labels, so finding HX Pro tapes in Europe is not easy, and you have to double check with the seller that HX Pro is written on the cover, or the cassette shell / housing itself

if as an example, you go to ebay.com (the american site) and in the search box type "HX Pro", and then tick the box that says Description Search, and select the Category - Music - Cassettes

you will see they pop up, item no 301028536703 gives you a photo of the tape, and in the bottom right hand corner you can see the HX Pro logo

Hi ouverture, sorry about the wrong name, just had a look at my collection of about 30 pre recorded tapes and i have found 4, most of them just have B NR on them and one has chrome dioxide

will have to have a good listen tomorrow and see if i can hear the difference

incidentally, i also have a beocord 1900, as well as my beocord 4500,  which sounds magnificent although that's probably before HX pro

also purchased a beocenter 2600 but that is trapped in wigan until i find a way of getting it out here

I recently emailed Opus. They were very quick to respond to multiple emails. I am considering having the conversion done on my Beosound 3000.

I don't know why, but this link seems to be to a completely different web page than the link earlier in thread, at least when I click on it.

you are out of luck, when I went through my Dad's tapes, my sister's, and mine, out of 400 or 500 tapes I found about 30 HX Pro tapes, many were bought in the States in the early to mid nineties

some European studios in Germany had HX Pro stamped on the shells as well, unless it has the HX Pro logo the Beocord will just play the tape as Dolby B (which are the 4 you found stamped B NR)

I didn't explain myself properly, 4 are stamped HX Pro, the rest are stamped B NR except for one stamped Chrome Dioxide

Not being a cassette whizz, infact far from it, how good is the dynamics on a HX pro cassette?

it is not as easy to quantify I am afraid, I have compared the same album using HX tape, CD and Vinyl, the good thing is that it seems B&O went out of their way to make the Beogram CD50 as similar to the Beogram vinyl sound as they could, I guess that is why they were so late to market, but they did a remarkable job with CD's pressed in the eighties (before all this radio compression *** came along) to make the B&O early CD players sound good ol' analogue !

it's well worth getting the media for an album you like that was produced in the mid to late eighties, even early nineties and see how good the Beosystem 5000 and Beosystem 5500 stacked up (scuse the pun)
