I got in for repair a CD50.
The problem was that it didn't do anything. So I didn't check and started with the basics.
But after removing and cleaning the mechanism from all the old grease, I noticed that the laserlens moves freely up and down. I can touch the lens with my nail and without any resistance it goes up and down.
I haven't noticed that before by any other CD50's.
Is this common? Should I investigate futher by opening the pickup element?
The lens is normally fairly free to move when unpowered. If it can seek out the focus point, it's fine.Load a CD, press play and look in from the left side to see the lens movement. If you load a CDR the focus point will be further out and the lens travel likewise and easier to see.
Did you service the spindle motor ?
Martin
I've taken the black cover from the pickup element and saw that it's contains only a lens with shaft surrounded by a coil.
So after re-assembling all parts I noticed that the spinkle motor was very noisy. So, ended up taking the cd-mchanism (upper part) away again.
After giving the drive shaft 2 drops of WD40, it became much less noisy and set the distance to 4.9mm according to the manual.
Next challenge is the lack of commands taken by the master.
BTW, Thanks Martin for your suggestion!

Solved. Forgot to plug in the small 2 pins connector at the socket-board at the back.
