Hi,

I just received a Beogram 3500, it seems in perfect working order.

But! When I put the steel platter on I hear it scraping on the underside when turning it on, so I'm guessing there is nothing wrong with the belt and/or motor but somehow the steel platter isn't ''catching'' and thus will not turn with the sub-platter/motor. When I take the steel platter of I can see everything running fine...

Does anyone have an idea where to look for?

Thanks!

Found your post minutes after this, and yes loosened them and now it turns! Thanks!

Problem number two...the needle/arm drops too early.

When i press Play the arm moves to the edge of the records and lowers precisely at the edge...causing the needle to scratch to the side of the record.

I'm guessing this is just a 'set-up' issue? In the service manual there is something written about the 30cm set-down for the arm and adjusting it by loosening a screw, adjusting a part and retightening  the screw again.

Lift off the platter.
Gently push the carriage left by hand about as far as it will go towards the center.
Look down at the foot of the carriage, there is a white excentric with +/- markings.
This is what you need to adjust.

Your a hero Martin!

I guess you mean the white plastic thing with the black screw which has +/- markings on it? (the wire runs around the black screw)
It doesn't matter which way I turn it and how far I can't get it to go on to the record, it always lands next to it somehow...

I checked the service manual again and it seems that the above is only for the 17cm adjustment, for the 30cm adjustment you need to use something else.

(see image)

So I tried that but it's not gotten any better, can't figure out which way to 'turn'' the 'arm (G)' either after loosening the screw for the needle to drop down on instead of off the record. (besides, loosening screw F is a real nightmare without taking the whole lid off..)

Its essential that you get the 17 cm set down point right first, then adjust the 30 cm point, adjustments in the IN direction is set down nearer to center.

Also check that the wire is undamaged and running free, without touching anything except the wheels and guides on the carriage. And check that the spring has tension.
