After many issues with my beosystem 8000 (at the end, the amp definitively blow and burn in my tech "atelier" but this is another story), I decided, with the help of my friend Leslie, to change my whole system and leave the 80s to the 90's.
I bought a beocenter 9500, a beolink 7000 (Totally useless and thus totally indispensable) and a pair of fully restored beolab penta (MK2) and I keep my S45.
To be honest, compared to my beomaster 8000, I was sure that the sound will not be as good as it were (the amp worked perfectly during two weeks, so I can compare ;)).
But after 3 weeks of intense use of this new system, I have to admit that the penta's are really impressives speakers (my only regret is that I had to give my wonderfull S60 with their trumpet stands to my mother (can't sell them) !
To sum up my feeling with the pentas :
- to hear classical music : they are great, impressive, deep, detailed, especially if you like choir !!!!
- to hear jazz : sometimes, I find them a little bit boomy (but it is only because I use to hear the S45 that are perfect for jazz (I still prefer hearing this music only with the S45 (good news that the 9500 have an internal amp that works good with the S45).
- to hear pop/rock : they are very good and incredible on women voices (try the Group Texas, the Corrs or Alanis Morissette, this is astonish) !!!!!
- to hear rock/hard rock : it's OK but for this kind of music I haveto admit that my BM8000/BG8000 with the S60 were better. For very complex songs (velvet undergroond, deep purple, pink floyd,...) the pentas are a little bit overwhelmed, it seems that all instruments (sometimes many) are not in the right place. This is not bad but for me the only lack of these speakers. I do not know why they are so brilliant with a symphonic orchestra and so flat on "child in time" for example)... a mistery for me...
- to make party/house/techno and other "boom boom" music : as soon as you have comprehensive neighbourg, you will be able to transform your flat into a real nightclub !!!! I never push them too much but they seem to be able to play music very lood with a lot of bass (enough for me ;))
To conclude, I love my new system, the sound is excellent on all music I like, it's compact (compared to the 8000, even with the stand, the 9500 and the pentas are really small and my girlfriend love it (important too)) !
So still in love with BO (even if after the 8000 (cost me a lot of money for nothing), I thought I will never bought some B&O and thanks to Leslie, I came back in the right way and am not disappointed).
Thanks to all forum members (I don't write too much but read a lot, always very interresting). For the moment, no new project except hearing again and again this new system !!!
Jacques
sorry for the bad quality of my pictures :(
Just a picture of the system !
Pfff, what a relief Jacques, haven't heard from you for the last two weeks! Happy for you that you like the Penta's. Still have to laugh when you came back and gave me a call saying that one Penta did not had any midrange drivers installed, 4 empty holes looking through the cloth. Sorry again but during refurb I forgot to put them back again. Your girlfriend btw has technical knowledge installing the drivers by Skype support LOL. My compliments... By the way, your BC9500 2-way is finished.
Thanks for giving me French cheese as a gift. It was excellent, vive la France!

Pentas are indeed great and you have a super system there. The 9500 is an ergonomic triumph and i agree everything you say about the Beolink 7000!!
Having compared Pentas with all sorts of other B&O speakers, the thing they lack is detail in the bass. they sound as if they have plenty but compare them to MS150s or M100s and you realise the bass doesn't have detail, just volume. The Beolab 5 has volume and detail!

Change the filter parts. One of the several heared complaints about the penta's.
@ Leslie, which foamsurrounds did you use with these?
Good Hifi surrounds! Can be done, but I have to admit the others are better and more easy to refoam.
Did several Penta's (about 8 and never had any complaints. Filterboard however has not been done but if Jacques wants to have them recapped on the filterboards I will do that, no probs!
