Just posted this on the Products Related forum but think it is better suited to the Workbench.

I have a Beogram 6500 which has been changed to phono plugs and I want to put the original 7 pin din plug back on it. I have the left and right channels back OK but the data wire appears to be wrong. I have connected the yellow to pin 7 but all I get is a buzz in the speaker each time the deck does something, i.e. the tone arm lifts, but the deck does not respond to any commands from the control panel.

I don't know if this previous thread answers your needs:

Yellow to pin 6, outer braided shield to plug casing (solder), if data link still not works short pin 6 to pin 7, if still hum check if outer braided shield is connected to chassis on BG

Think the 6500 has the RIAA amplifier therefore I put data (yellow) to pin 7, If the outer braiding goes to the case, what goes to pin 2, ground for left and right channel ?

Pin 2 ground left right, and as far as I remember pin 6/7 is shorted in the amp, checking, give me 3 min

I'll give that a go, looks like I missed the link between 6 and 7 and the earth to the case.

So it should not matter if datalink is connected to 6 or 7, if you still have hum something may be wrong with the silent relay, and remember you must have a record on the platter to test.

the pic shows the connection in the jack on the BM 6500, so only check that chassis ground from BG is soldered to PLUG casing. And yellow to pin 6 or 7

No change, each command on the control panel gives an audible buzz but nothing happens. Would it make a difference that I have used the outer braiding as the left and right channel earth as well as earth to the plug case. If so, is the left and right channel earth the 2 small black wires, (assuming blue and green are not used)

Outer braiding is chassis ground, the 2 black wires must be left and right ground, and they must be separated from the outer braiding, the 2 black wires to pin 2.

If you disconnect the BG from the BM, put a record on it and press play, does it work then.

Separate the white and red wires from their outer shield, twist the shields together and connect to pin2

Connect white wire to pin 3, red to pin 5

Connect the thicker of the two black wires to the outer case of the din plug

Connect yellow to pin 7

From memory, that is how they are wired from the factory.

He is talking about a blue and a green wire too, do you remember these, in  the drawing I only sees the colors you mention.

The blue wire is not required. I don't remember seeing a green wire.

Ok, it has all become clear !

The blue and green (off white according to my son, I'm colourblind) are not used, they were cut in the deck end of the cable, had to strip it back to see this and the off white was a light fibre of some sort, not copper cable at all

Red and White are right and left +ve as we know, There were 3 blacks in the deck end of the cable, two of these were the outer shielding off of the red and white, again discovered when I stripped the cable back, the third, was a slightly smaller black.

Therefore, after some trial and error :-

Smaller black to pin 2   (left and right channel earth)

large White pin 3   (Left channel +ve)

large Red pin 5     (Right channel +ve)

Yellow pin 7           (Data)

Shielding around Red and White to plug case

Everything works a treat

** Before you all shout at me, yes, the shielding from the Red and White should have gone to pin 2 and the smaller black to the case but as they're earths it doesn't seem to matter and I can't be bothered to take the plug apart again ! **

Thanks for all your collective input
