moxxey:Yeah, my dealer had the white with the green fret on display (but when I went in, they'd temporarily taken it to show a customer). He said that you barely could see the green under the white frame - he has a point though, it's a simply piece of cloth that sits under those holes in the speaker. You won't see very much. It's note like the BV6, where you can swap out the entire speaker cover with a different colour.
How annoying, but I quess it would be possible to put the fret outside the holes also, perhaps that could work? with something to fix it to the holes. Im not sure it would look very nice tough.
I really think the white one is the one I will buy. I think the holes look better on the white one than the dark one since they look darker on the white model. On the dark one the holes looks like dust/light and I don't like that. It also seems to be brighter than the black panel, which is a contrast I dont really like either.
Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2, BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century, BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i, BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40, BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)
Just a quick update. Was walking to football early this evening and noticed my dealer was closing up (an hour late!).
Noticed they had the 40" white V1 in the store. I asked him if it's the one with the green fret. He said it was. I had to ask if it really was - he even checked whether it was.
Sadly that tells me all we need to know....you barely can see the colour under the speaker. In the store it looked like a dark green, if you look closely. From a distance, it just looks like darkness/shadow under the speaker part of the V1. Basically, the bright green doesn't look like bright green.
Maybe the orange may stand out more, but do not expect the coloured frets to add much colour to the charcoal V1! It was bad enough trying to make out the green on the white V1.

John:For a lounge though, and especially as he pointed out that the satin black cabinet that was an option for the 8-40 is more or less identical to a similar cabinet for the BV10 - still available - and a perfect fit for a new V1 in black for a lounge room situation.
which cabinets are these ?
can you point me to a picture please ?
I am in the market for one :-)

I was asking the dealer about possible stand options. He pointed out a cabinet that was an option for the Beovision 8-40, and whilst these are no longer available, apparently there is an almost identical cabinet available as an option for the Beovision 10-40. He stated that the only practical difference is where the holes for connections exit the cabinet. I've not seen such a cabinet for the 10-40, but indeed a cabinet is listed on the B&O site for the stand options for the TV. In terms of it's colour and dimensions, it looked to be a very good fit for a V1 with the floor stand, as against an 3rd party stand/shelf etc.
This is a link to the discontinued stand available for the 8-40; assuming the dealer is right and the stand for the 10-40 is the same, this could make a viable option for either the 10-40 or the V1 IMHO.

Hope this helps

Hi guys,
They used to have this stand at DJ's in the city. The last time i saw it they were refurbing their B&O stand (a few months ago). I saw that it's back the other day but didn't go to see if they have the BV8 on this stand. I'll report back if i see it there this week.
B&O used to be in DJ's in the city ageessss ago, but since they departed from there, they have a small stand - on a pillar selling phones and bedtime etc on the top level where the TV's are.
Cheers
Michael.

Yes, this is the cabinet my dealer has his 40" white V1 sat on. Looks really good. Strangely, although it's always been in the store (a BV8 was on it previously), I'd not noticed until it was used to display the V1.
Certainly recommended.

Yes, I liked it also. I note the stand listed on the B&O site for the BV10-40 mentions it being available in white or black. If it's the same stand as the one I saw for the discontinued 8-40, then it'd be ideal as an low table/stand for an V1.
The one I saw in the shop (for the 8-40) was in a satin black, with a damped, hinged door that hid from view a space for Bluray player etc; also with proper ventilation slots in the base etc, i.e. a dedicated piece of AV furniture.
Even though I've been and seen it, I'm still excited by this TV.. lol
I"ve a friend visiting for a couple of days from interstate who is keen on seeing it also, so I will be paying another visit in a day or two for another look...
Best Regards
Is it only me who is more interested in wall mount solutions? :)
I seriously want to know if it would be possible to install the tilted included stand the other way around, so that the screen would be tilted down on a high wall instead. What do you think?
Something like this =). Just a super quick photoshop-sketch but you get the idea.
Brilliant!
But I'm sure stbbrackets will come with something very soon..
Hey John,
That's always dangerous taking a friend to a B&O shop! I did the same with my Best Friend Mridul the other week in Leeds and now there is a list of saving up fors! He won't let me buy anything as he says we need to invest for our Advertising Agency / Sports Representation business but after seeing that guys BV12 with an obscene amount of speakers in his apartment, I don't feel so bad about maybe, just maybe, buying that Airplay A8 at £949! Maybe... Still loving that V1 but really, I do not need a TV at this stage in my life :)
Geoff Martin: There are two new options in the V1 that may be of interest for this application. The first is a new Speaker Type called "Line". This tells the TV to use a PowerLink channel as a fixed-level Line output instead of the usual volume-regulated signal. The second is the addition of two new Speaker Roles called "Mix Left" and "Mix Right". These will do a down mix of the incoming signals to a two-channel output. The idea behind both of these additions to the software is that you can take a PowerLink output from the TV and send it to the bedroom where you have an independent volume regulation. It's not MasterLink, so there's no remote control signal coming back to the television, but you can use it to re-distribute sound to a second room if you wish to do so. Cheers -geoff

After a very interesting conversation with Geoff over dinner this evening, I have realised that there are actually far more options for connecting a Beoplay V1 to an existing B&O system than might first seem apparent. The inclusion of the "down-mixed" Line Out option via the Powerlink sockets allows for easy integration of the V1 with BeoSound audio systems, as well as Masterlink, Master Control Link and proprietary AV networks and I will now be investigating all of the options to help link this superb new TV into a wide range of home environments.

Steve,
If you wouldn't mind, please suggest the best way to run the output from my BM 7000 through the V1 to my speakers without any loss of sound quality . (See my long post on the other V1 thread.) I'm far from technical and just need a slick solution for 5.1 from my HDTV box. 80+% of my speaker use is TV..., but I DO like listening to CD's and vinyl!
Running a 4002 and CD 7000 currently through the BM 7000 and PL to a BL 11 which runs two BL 3's in the front on floor stands and on PL to an ML/MCL in the rear which runs two M70's. Might seem weird but it sounds great!
BTW, does the V1 have separate speaker balance adjustment for front and rear?
Many Thanks!
William
John, you would make a wonderful critic / reviewer!

Yes, we talked about that over a week ago - see page 11 this thread, but nobody seems to be interested in such solutions although a lot of people complained the lack o Masterlink...
Copy/paste from page 11:
Geoff, thanks for the info.
The Line function is a very interesting feature. You can also connect the V1 to an AUX port of an older audiomaster (BC9500, 9500, BM6500, 7000, 4500, BC2300.....). Set audiomaster to A.OPT2 and selecting a video source should activate the V1 AND your audiomaster opening the AUX input.
Volume control now works via audiomaster. Should also work via a Beolink converter with newer (masterlink) audiomasters.
This can also be distributed via an existing masterlink system to link rooms. Am I right?
If you now connect a Lintronic box to the AUX port, it should even be possible to control the V1 via audiomaster AND from linkrooms.
Now you have created your own ML module.....
Is V.OPT0 possible in V1? Does this feature affect the center speaker. Will it be disconnected/muted? Or will it play just stereo/center including volume control in videomode?
The "downmix feature" will create a stereo signal on all powerlink (RJ45) outputs, no matter what the incoming signal is, did I understand that correctly?
BTW: Geoff, thanks for joining Beoworld and for all your kind explanations. Maybe some of your colleagues in Struer will do the same...?
Hilsen
Stefan
Hi Stefan,
Yes, I know this was spoken about a few days ago....I wanted to wait until I had spoken to Geoff before commenting, hence my delayed reply.
I will be investigating all the options and talking to dealers and customers to see what people want to achieve when integrating the V1 into their existing systems, so that I can provide the most helpful solutions.
Kind regards, Steve.
stefan: Geoff, thanks for joining Beoworld and for all your kind explanations.
Geoff, thanks for joining Beoworld and for all your kind explanations.
You're welcome! My pleasure! Actually, we have a symbiotic relationship - since I surf Beoworld for real-world customer opinions, reactions, comments and complaints, I think that it's only fair that I give something back in return. Maybe this is akin to sustainability in information mining, historically known as the YSMBISY Principle. (You Scratch My Back, I'll Scratch Yours)

Sorry - missed this one.
All of the rules that used to determine which speakers did what in TV's before V1 have been thrown out.
So, now, it's up to you to decide how you want your speakers to behave.
There are some automatically-chosen parameters when you do your set-up (i.e. the TV decides what the best bass management strategy is based on your Speaker Types in a given Speaker Group) however, these, too, can be over-ridden using the Advanced Settings menus.
In the new menu structure, any speaker can be anything you want. So, for example, if you connect four BeoLab 5's to a V1, and you wish to tell it that the left internal speaker on the V1 is a subwoofer, you can do this. This would certainly not be smart, but you can do it if you choose to do so. Similarly, you can say that all loudspeakers connected to a V1 (including the internal ones) should play the Left Surround channel. Again, this might make for a boring movie, but it's possible.
For details on this (and more!), I would suggest that you consult a little document I wrote called the Technical Sound Guide. It's available at
http://www.bang-olufsen.com/UserFiles/File/ug/BeoPlayV1/Technical_Sound_Guide.pdf
If something in there doesn't make sense, then please feel free to ask for clarification!

I should have mentioned in this sentence that there is another Speaker Type called "Other". This is basically the same as the "Line" type, described above, but WITH volume regulation.
It can be useful in a number of configurations, such as when you have loudspeakers that aren't in the menu (i.e. older B&O passive speakers with external amplification)

I love it when the designers actually put some thought into the features!

Yes, I must say that I am incredibly impressed with the way they are actually listening to the dudes here on BeoWorld. It's incredibly refreshing!

Thanks again Geoff. Read the sound guide before, very innovating and interesting thoughts about sound setting imho.. I had the chance to have a look at the V1 in a Beostore. Amazing Sound menu with hundreds of options / configurations.
Must be a powerful DSP integrated in the TV.
Unfortunately we can`t listen to all these options in the store, because most dealers will present the V1 as a standalone product and it would take much time to test all configurations. Maybe I should ask my dealer for a V1-two-years-home-demo....:)?
And yes, sometimes I like that ISYBYSM principle....
BTW: Does anybody know if the Beo4play is a modified Beo4, because you`ll find source MEDIA, which is not present on any other Beo4s, even not in the new Beo4navi (1710). If yes, are there any other differences?

I think the Media button is for connecting to NAS drives and the likes perhaps. And I think the regular Beo4 will get it also in the future.

Yes, I know , source MEDIA is for the new mediaplayer integrated in the V1. You can access all drives in your network, also your Beomaster 5 if present.
And you can also reassign source MEDIA to any other video source like V.MEM....
But afaik it is not possible to update regular Beo4s, so maybe in future Beo4s features like source MEDIA will be integrated.
What about other differences?
I prepared a USB with gapless tracks (FLAC) to try in a V1 at my dealer. It took more than a second of silence to go to the next track... I also tried to fastforward a track, but couldn’t find, how to do it.
I assume we’ll have the same problem with a NAS.
Any news if this will be fixed?

Dave: John, you would make a wonderful critic / reviewer! Something to think about...
Hi Dave
It's really most kind, and very much appreciated to read your comment - thank you!
It's a lovely change from the days past when I used to contribute to Pink Fish Media and got attacked for making 'overly long' posts, and for not toeing the Naim party line in general...
I'm very sorry to hear of your continuing difficulties re the freighting of the Beovision 9 - perhaps it is time for some legal advice/action?
You'd be very much within your rights - an insurance contract is an insurance contract and the freight company can't simply try to deny any legal liability and wipe their hands of it.
If you took them to court, they will likely settle out of court, but if it went to court, you could also claim damages for emotional upset and loss of use of the Beovision 9 etc.
Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help
Thank you again for your most kind comments
As my dealer in the US has still not received his and has not been able to do any experimenting, I'd still appreciate some input to my post above. When I spoke to my dealer yesterday, he said that he'd spoken to Chicago and that a custom cable might be available to connect my BM 7000 to the V1 via data link. Not totally clear on what that might imply from the control standpoint.
On another matter, the "table stand" for the V1 is shown here http://www.bang-olufsen.com/UserFiles/File/ug/BeoPlayV1/beoplay_V1_table_stand.pdf but in the media center that stand is called a floor stand. Has anyone seen the REAL table stand???
Confused in Virginia...
Dear Curmudgeon,
By the time the first TV arrives with your dealer, I should have the first batch of Powerlink converter cables to allow you to play sound from the V1 out to the Aux input of the BeoMaster 7000.
If you want to drop me a line when you have had a chance to look at the TV, I will be able to confirm exactly which cable you need to add a V1 into your setup.
Thanks for the quick reply, Steve!
Actually, the point of considering the V1 in the first place was to have a digital 5.1 processor and a center channel. If the picture is better than what I have currently, that's just gravy, but it had better not be any worse!
Sooo..., what I really need to do is to run my phono, FM and CD output from the BM 7000 to the V1 and am looking for a "STEREO 4" output / downsampling to my BL 3's, BL 11, the V1 speakers and my M70's in the rear (running off an ML/MCL.
What I need is the opposite of what you're suggesting, right? But I've no idea how this would operate.
I'm also dubious about the V1 / Beo4 operation of my 5.1 HDTV cable box as well. No doubt B&O has this figured out for Europe but here we have many providers, all using different gear and loads of "on demand" menus. I'll need to be convinced.
Here is a review...
http://www.hdtv-news.com/reviews/beoplay-v1-review/
I've seen the V1 last week at my dealer. Within two or three minutes it was clear: I desperately need one. There is just one problem: I'm still searching for a room where to install it.
hfat
Benoit, what an OUTSTANDING review!!!
I ordered two today, one white 40" for me and one black 40" for my old neighbour, a nice lady that also appreciate b&o :). My dealer told me that it takes about ten days because they make them to order in struer.
My first new-bought b&o tv!
Wow Michael! Yes, white is my choice!

Apparently it suffers from severe picture lag and is useless for gaming. I think this is a missed opportunity for its target market.
