Interesting. My dealer confirmed today that the V1 is.....made in Denmark!

Really?  Goodness, that'll give the dissenters something to chew over... Big Smile

Brilliant that they can produce it there at the price they have...

Best Regards

Hi John, yes! I must admit, I had to ask him twice. He said, yes, made in Struer, alongside the BV10.

He says they've had a lot of interest int he 32", but less so for the 40".

Greetings,

I read here that a BeoCenter 2 cannot be connected to the V1.   The dealer at Selfriges in London insists that it can.

Can someone confirm whether it can or not.  Maybe the dealer is just hungry for a sale.

Off course it can. A BC2 can be connected to any TV..

The BC2 can be connected to any TV indeed, as a DVD player.

I do not think you'll be able to play radio stations for example if the speakers are connected to the TV and not to the BC2.

The integration with "any TV" also assumes that TV is non B&O. The Beo4 signal will be picked up by both the TV and the BC2 and in some cases it may do some strange things...

If I were you I'd really insist to see it working and see what works and what doesn't before opening your wallet.

Pressing RADIO on your beo4 will react on both, so this can be an issue. The BC2 will go to FM-radio, and the V1 will turn on the DVB-tuner.

So assume you have Beolabs to connect, obviously you want these to connect with the V1. Downside is, because of the missing masterlink, that playing audio-CD’s will become obsolete.

Crazy NZ pricing is:

32 inch from $4,690

40 inch from $5,750

I don't know what the "from" entails but I'll pop in the weekend and report back! Smile

Different stand options, I think.

My brother was always moaning about the cost of electronics in NZ. When he flew to the UK, he'd often stop over in Hong Kong on the way over and buy discounted stuff from there (or the US on the way back!).

Thank you for the responses to my question about connecting the BC2 to the V1.  I do indeed wish to play CDs on the BC2 which are connected to BL3s and BL11.  As I understand it from the comments here, this will not work if connected to the V1.

This is contrary to what the dealer told me.

Cheers

In the V1 set up menu it is possible to reassign the radio command (fofr Freeview radio stations) to somethinmg else if you wish. That would avoid a clash of commands with the BeoCentre2

That's great! They should do the same for the optional DVB-tuners for the Beovisions.

Goodness, I'm a bit lost on this as a potential V1 purchaser.  As I understand it from the B&O scheme of wiring, you could run SPDIF from the BC2 to the V1 (I assume the BC2 has a SPDIF output?) and thence the SS processor in the V1 would have a DAC to convert digital to analogue, sent out via those new RJ145 connections to an adaptor lead (RJ145 to DIN) to plug in to your Lab 3's and Beolab 11 sub.

On the other hand, if the BC2 doesn't have a SPDIF output, and only analogue via a lead/link called Masterlink, then I think you are probably stuffed re connection to the V1 - albeit from the manual the V1 does appear to have at least one DIN style socket for connection of an analogue source.  Maybe Steve at sounds heavenly might be able to suggest some sort of adaptor cable from your BC2 to the V1?

BC2 socket unit does have a digital output, so no problem.
It also have both scart and S-Video connectors, so you can connect it to the V1s analog input (which just needs an adapter).

Just connect the speakers to the V1 and job done Smile

This is correct. So what I said in a previous reply that playing cd's will become obsolete is NOT true, I guess.

Does it have the capability to provide a signal to a projector via an HDMI out, and then blank out its own screen?

As I'm very interested in one (V1) I've been studying the manual, along with one for a Sony Bravia for comparison purposes and to learn what the V1 can and can't do.

I've not read anything to indicate an HDMI out.

On the other hand, something like an Oppo BD93/95 has two HDMI outs; so one could go to the projector for video, and the other to the V1 for sound.

Am pretty sure that would work; albeit not quite as elegant as an HDMI pass through.

Hi John, that's not a bad idea - or even using an HDMI splitter or something similar to fork the signal. I'd just really like to blackout the V1's screen when the projector screen is down (but still have it controlling the high def source, a PS3 most likely). If it is a truly capable AV processor and center channel then I may be seriously tempted....

Something like this perhaps? http://www.amazon.co.uk/output-input-splitter-switch-Amplifier/dp/B007TSR3RY

Hi Khamler

From what I have read in the manual, you could do that, as you can 'mute' the picture; P-Mute.

From page 21 of the V1 manual:

"To temporarily remove the picture from the screen, press LIST and use the navigation button up or down to bring up P.MUTE in the Beo4 display and press the centre button. To restore the picture, press a source button. (Beo6: press to bring up the Scene display on Beo6, press Picture, then press P.Mute. To restore the picture, press P.Mute again). "

In short, I think you could have your cake and eat it too... Big Smile

HTH

Kind regards

John... Cool

Excellent!

Now just to decide.... Black or white... I've got gloss black BeoLab 6000s and a black BeoCom 2... I think that just answered my question ;)

Although I do think white suits this model better, and all of the promo shots seem to be of the white one.

I was keen on the white. Was still keen after seeing the white model at my dealer.

However, the more I think about it, the more likely I'd go for charcoal grey (it's not black) with a couple of contrast colour frets. Indeed, my dealer pointed out they've not sold a single white one, so far, probably for the same reason!

Doesn't make the decision any easier when you see my dealer using a grubby white BV8 for their computer monitor. I know what you're thinking, it's the white rubber model. Nope, it's the white plastic BV8 and it still looks grubby. I think that's the problem with white, after a while it's hard to keep white, particularly if it's hit by sun or other colour-changing devices.

I am also having a big problem deciding which colour I should choose. The white one was my first choice since it probably blends better with the wall. But I kind of like the black one more now. And just as moxxey said it isnt really black.

I think a black frame around the picture is easier on the eyes than the big contrast with a white frame. But I am not sure. Will take a lot of time to decide.

Would be interesting to see how the different speaker-colours looks in the black/white models. And I also want to know what they will cost.

Does anyone know if the Beoplay V1 has a sleep timer? I often use that function on my current samsung bedroom tv. So it turns of after 30/60/90 minutes etc..

Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2,
BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century,
BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i,
BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

I have a BL11. You mean....buy another :)

Although I like the idea of one, I don't need a V1 at the moment. I have the BV10 and BC6 and don't want a TV in the bedroom. I'm much more likely to buy a BV12.

Happy to help - as I say I've been a bit anal in reading instruction manuals for the V1 and also a Sony that interests me - no point in finding out the fine details after you've bought it... I'd suggest downloading both the instruction manual and the technical sound guide from the Beoplay site to gain the best understanding of the sets capabilities.  The surround sound processor facilities are most impressive and state of the art IMHO.

I may be wrong, but i would think that if you watch movies in a darkened room as I do, that the light from the screen would likely reflect on the white of the surround and make it noticeable in such viewing conditions.  I do like the look of the white, but for reasons of grubbiness, concern about the fading effects over time due UV light, and also because I think the stainless steel 'bar' looks better re contrast with the black as against the white, I'd probably go the black/dark grey also.

Of course, colour is very subjective and I like both colours from the photos, and the shape of the set.  My only reservation re aesthetics is the look of the stands, and I will reserve judgement until seeing one in the metal.  I hope to be able to also see some of the coloured frets in situ, as I think this effect will really change the look of the TV from what we are currently seeing in photos with it 'naked' as regards coloured frets.

Best Regards

I think it's "horses for courses" ....

Our white BV8 blended in well with the scandinavian wood bookcase it sat on; its successor, the black BV8 looks like a hole in space

And I never noticed the white frame when watching the video regardless of room lighting conditions

These are my opinions - my wife prefers the black

However, the white BV8 in its new (temporary) surroundings of a darker room with an antique theme looks out of place, where as I suspect the black hole effect would be less noticible

As for which V1 ?  I suspect we will go for 32" for use as a TV and as a monitor ... and in that situation, white of course

Does it matter? :) I mean, it's not as if we can compare that to components in other B&O TVs. I have no idea where the components come from that make up the BV10-46!
